interesting
to see your full throttle EGT's with the two different props. I may be
wrong,
but I believe you could be running leaner at full throttle with the lower
RPM
prop.<<<<<
All other things being equal, the lower RPM would seem indicate a greater
load on the engine by the new prop. If that is the case the engine will run
richer, not leaner, with the Bing carby and the same jetting. He should be
seeing lower EGT's as a result. This is one of the things that Jabiru hasn't
done a very good job of explaining to folks, myself included, who buy their
engines and use them on different airframes or with different props. Jabiru
engines come from the factory tuned for the Jabiru airframe and a specific
prop combination. If you alter that by installing their engine in a
different airframe/prop combination you have to adjust the prop pitch and/or
carb jetting to optimize your particular set up. A cleaner airframe, like my
Europa, presents less load to the engine and will make it run leaner. In my
case, much leaner. You have to adjust the jetting and prop pitch to
compensate. A more draggy airframe, like a CH701, presents more load to the
engine and will make it run richer. You have to adjust jetting and prop
pitch accordingly. This is covered in depth in Jabiru USA's engine course. I
highly recommend anyone who is operating a Jab attend it. You won't be
sorry. Well worth the price charged.

>From the mouth of Rod Stiff himself to my friend who described the exact same
problem that started the thread.
The engine doesn't like too much oil because the heat dissipation in the oil cooling
system has a fixed maximum rate and when you add too much oil the oil itself
becomes a carrier of heat and delivers it back to the engine. Thus the engine
makes its own and is delivered more resulting in the rise of overall temp.
We have two Jab 3300's here in my town and both of us have added too much oil once
(New clean oil - can't see the level........just a little bit more ...oops!)
and both had exactly the same result hence the call to Rod Stiff.
Rod recommended running them on levels toward the lower end of the hashed zone.
Have done so since and temps are good all the time.
