Fine pitch? 47"? I had a 62 X 46 on my 2200, and I couldn't get 3300
unless I was going downhill.
At WOT the needle is pulled up as far as it will
go...supposedly....and this should richen things up quite a bit, and
should give you something in the 1200's for EGT. Then when you reduce
throttle to cruise speed, the needle plugs part of the needle jet,
and things warm up a bit. If you've got 1400 at WOT, something is wrong.
What plane is this on again? It helps if you add some pertinent data
into your signature...then questions like I just asked is always
available.

I should clarify. THis is on a Jab 3300, it is a 64x47. It is on a Zodiac HD
(draggier) not an XL. Most XL drivers seem to be using a 64x51. I wanted climb.
I agree something is wrong... THat something is the distribution of fuel to the
cylinders. 1425 is the worst I've seen that #5 at. Mind you, at the same time,
my cyl 6 is running at 1080-1100!. Tilting the carb has helped and now.
The mathematical average of the cylinders at MWOT is about 1225-1275, so my main
jetting appears to be about right. Ive tried the .255 and .250 It seems that
in an Ideal world I might need something in the middle. If I get really ambitious
one day and when I really get things tuned in I might open up my .250 just
a tiny tiny bit with a very precise reamer, but I'm not that close yet in
the tuning stages.
I'll look into adding some clarifications on my signature. Good point.

Mike,
I have had similar numbers on my 3300 in a Lightning; the splitter
vane installed in the exit from the airbox cover made the greatest
improvement. Changing jets had no impact.

Martin,
I checked the carb when I received it and found it came with a 250 in lieu of a
255 main jet. It would not turn up for the previous owner and I believe it was
due to being too lean. I went up in size slowly watching EGT and CHT's. I ordered
a 260 main jet from Pete and installed it. I also ordered a 290 needle jet
and bored it to 295.
I have changed jets so many times I don't even pull the carb off the engine any
more. i think it is about as close to being right as I can get it.

Hi Bobby,
There are a few more mods that can be made, but not necessary maybe in your
application.
These include drilling out the idle air bleed (which may entail upping the
idle jet to #45) drilling out the main airbleed and the emulsion tube holes
and even the jet in the float bowl that feeds the 'choke' circuit. Also
placing a small washer under the clip on the needle will richen the mixture
in cruise.
But I really think that the problems are poor mixture distribution due to
the manifold design, sometimes helped by angling the carb.

This is a general request to posters to please include some info
about your engine, prop size, number of hours, aircraft type, etc.,
when you post, so that the people reading your post will have a
better idea of what your situation is. This is most easily done by
including this data in your signature lines. That way, every time you
post someone who is trying to help will be able to see at a glance
what you're dealing with...and if a computer dummy like me can make a
signature, and change it when it becomes necessary, anyone can do it.

Have you checked the Needle & seat in the carb ?
The early engines used the same as the 4 cyl but has since been upgraded to a larger
size to allow more fuel flow.

Subject: | Re: Radiator Hose for Intake and 1,3,5 lean |
The flow divider I put inside the Intakehoses.com rubber hose was the best improvement
I found for getting left/right bank mixtures and temperatures closer together.
This is an old picture showing an early divider. Instead of using .025
and folding the sides, I am now using a .050 piece of aluminum with beveled
sides as to not cut into the hose. Been going strong for almost 170 hours and
three years now.
Good luck,
