List,
I just read where a Zodiac 601 XL made a forced landing in Medina, Ohio due to
zero fuel pressure. ( April 13, 2012 ). This plane has a Jabiru 3300 engine according
to the registration. I checked the N number and found it was registered
to a Frank Bailey.
Does anyone know if the zero pressure was caused by fuel exhaustion or a failed
pump. The report said he switched tanks and still no pressure.
Since a lot of us are running Jabiru engines it would be nice to know if he had
a boost pump - did both elec. and eng. fuel pumps fail - or was it fuel exhaustion.
Thanks for any info
Bobby ( age 73 )

Hi Bobby,
Here is a link to the preliminary NTSB report:
http://www.ntsb.gov/aviationquery/brief.aspx?ev_id 120417X91104&key=1
It doesn't say whether he ran out of fuel or not. He reported losing
engine power in level(?) flight. He applied carb heat but said nothing
about fuel boost pump. (I think all low wing planes need boost pumps
for starting, but some people use them all the time.)
This doesn't sound like it had anything to do with the fact it was a
Zodiac XL. This kind of incident happens frequently with many different
airframes and engines.
