Dave, Thanks for the info on the screen size in the gascolators. If the 100 micron size has been used since the Wright Bros. I wonder why it was changed?? Sometimes newer is not better. Your description of the episode you had fits exactly what happened to me. I will check the part number and replace if is the smaller size. Info like this may keep me and some others out of the trees. Thanks again Bobby ( age 74 ) Zodiac 601 XL "B" Jabiru 3300 S/N 1141 Sensenich 64" x 51" Prop Bing Carb 260 Main & 285 Needle Jet Status - Flying 155 hrs. Do Not Archive

    Subject: Gascolator
List, David and I were referring to the fuel that is trapped Downstream of the gascolator. It will be between the gascolator screen and the firewall or fuel pump( s ). When the gascolator is removed the screen is held in place with a thick gasket and tight fit around the inlet to the gascolator. The weight or pressure of the gasoline is not sufficient to flow backward thru the screen even if it is clean. It may even be under a partial vacuum. So when you slide a dental pick or knife blade under the screen to remove it you will get a backflow of the fuel that was trapped in the line. If you are lucky it will drip off your elbow. If you are laying down you will get an armpit full. Hope this clarifies what we experienced. Bobby Do Not Archive
