"Rotec" is an Australian company who has been selling radial engines, of their own design, for approximately twelve years. About five years ago they introduced another product- a "throttle body injector" (although some people consider the design better described as a slide carburetor). They market that product line as the "Rotec TBI." The Rotec TBI was originally intended for Rotec's own engines but it is also marketed for Jabiru and many other engines. Their products have been featured and advertised in many light plane magazines for over a decade. One of their engines was installed and flying on an airplane that flew to Oshkosh 2002 (yes, 2002, ten years ago) and Rotec the company has been attending the Oshkosh show for at least that long. Rotec has had a very good and informative website available for several years. "Rotax" is an Austrian company who sells engines that are popular in light aircraft. They also sell engines for non-aviation applications. Some examples of their common engine models are the 582 and 912 series. Some Rotax engines are also used in military UAVs. Strong opinions on Rotax engines vs other aero engine marques abound with religious fervor, just like opinions on automobile marques among racing fans. Rotax has also had a first class website available for a long time. Please note that "Rotec" and "Rotax" are completely separate and unrelated companies, although some of each company's products compete in the same markets. (By the way, the countries where each company are based, "Australia" and "Austria" respectively, are also completely separate and unrelated countries... note that both countries may be found in any world atlas published in the past several decades and no doubt both have popular online groups too!) "RATAX" is a new one for me...??? Regardless, I believe the topic at hand is a "Rotec TBI" on a "Jabiru" engine, not "Rotax," "Ratax," "Rotex," "Rotox," "Botox," etc. [quote="BARRY CHECK 6"]Doug: It withtongin cheek, I have to laugh when you say "work your way through". I joined the RATAX group to gain some insight. But, instead I gained some track shoes to run away from RATAX as quick aspossible. They have so many problems it is amazing anyone would even consider that engine. Yet, the they brag about the military using them on UAV's... Sure the military can... They have unlimited funds to keep them running. Barry On Wed, Aug 22, 2012 at 5:02 PM, wrote: [quote] Glad to hear things are going well for you, Lynn. Others have not been so lucky with the Rotec contraption. At least two other people that I know have tried the Rotec and tossed it. Granted, it was the 3300 Jab, but the engines never ran right and were not reliable enough to fly with. To others who are considering the Rotec, be prepared to work your way thought some disappointment. In my opinion.
