Do you have the capability of adjusting the mixture? Sounds like it may be
running too rich.

Hi Bear,
Old Bob is probably right on about it being a little rich. Remember
you can change the main jet in the Bing to adjust the fuel. I wish I could
remember the main jet size I am now using, but don't have my engine log
book with me at the time. We also changed Linda's some time ago. Give Nick
or Pete a call and find out what main jet they recommend with the Lightning.
I'll be in SYI next week and will mention it to them. Will also be at
the Light Sport Expo in Sebring with them in January.

Paul,
You might consider that before you change the mixture to save the
plugs, getting EGTs under control in the Jabiru is problematic and it
sounds like yours are good. Jabirus fundamentally run rich compared to
most other engine designs. If you are using 100% avgas you might use TCP
or another lead scavenging additive. They do help a lot and also reduce
build up on valves.

Fouled plugs usually come from a rich idle mixture. Adjust the idle mixture
screw to achieve correct idle. Turn it in (clockwise) to lean the idle
mixture.

Hi Bear,
I am using the 250 main jet and 285 for the needle jet. I never had a
ny trouble with fouled plugs but we did adjust the idle mixture screw.
Happy holidays, Linda

Thanks Buz,
We started out with the 280 needle and Nick went to the 278, then 276 and I
've been flying it now with the 276 for about 3 years. Yea, please check w
hich one you and Linda are using. There's another Lightning owner who boug
ht N325AL and is experiencing the same issue, so I'm not alone here. :-)
I'll also check with Nick/Pete to see what they are using now.
Thanks
Bear

Hi Bear,
Old Bob is probably right on about it being a little rich. Remember yo
u can change the main jet in the Bing to adjust the fuel. I wish I could r
emember the main jet size I am now using, but don't have my engine log book
with me at the time. We also changed Linda's some time ago. Give Nick or
Pete a call and find out what main jet they recommend with the Lightning.
I'll be in SYI next week and will mention it to them. Will also be at the
Light Sport Expo in Sebring with them in January.
Blue Skies,
Buz

Thanks Bob,
I have the Bing Carburetor and no mixture adjustment. The average CHT's
are 273 and EGT's are 1328.

Good Evening Paul,
Do you have the capability of adjusting the mixture? Sounds like it may b
e running too rich.
Happy Skies,
Old Bob
