If you have an engine say newer than 2004 or so you probably have the jabiru needle not the one from Bing. The bing needle has a straight taper and casue the engine to have an extreme lean peak in that RPM range. Of course say operating for long hours in those ranges before the engine is broke in could cause the same problem, but this is due to the rings not seating.
