    From: Rich <4rcsimmons@comcast.net>
For the record I am building a 601XL (B) with the Jabiru 3300! Over the past years of building my plane and reading the Matronics list for the Jabiru 3300 Engine and the Zenith list there has been a lot of conversation on Left/Right Bank Temp differential due to the sharp bend of the intake hose joining the Air box to Carb. I have read on the forums simply twisting the Carb a bit in its couplings and this improves the condition. Others may also add veins in the intake tube to straighten out the airflow a bit. For a While, the Cobra tube was offered but that source has moved on to other things in life so they say. My thoughts are to rotate the tube on the Carb 90 degrees and then plumb my way back to the air box and also moving the coupling on the air box. So with my above statements, what is the better way to attack this problem before my targeted first flight next spring since I am still in the wiring and final installation mode? I know this will draw many opinions but I consider learning from what others did and listening to wise old owls is probably a good thing! Thanks for sharing your opinion and what you did yourself. Regards, Rich Simmons Murfreesboro, TN - Rich

Rich, I has a similar configuration when I had a Jabiru, finally switched to the Rotac carb but I think one observation may still be significant. I found that having the airflow come from the top instead of from one side significantly helped with the Rotec and I expect it would with the Bing. I believe this was because the airflow even with straighteners or a "Cobra" is still unsymmetrical and with airflow from the top it is more symmetric - at least from side to side. Unfourtunately, the airbox as supplied by Jabiru does not make such air routing easy, it would need to be modified. Something to consider. You can see www.n708hu.com 1066 and 1069. More hose than I would have liked but it did work.
