O.K.
I jumped the gun yesterday about the 2200 not having spark. Teh spark was a little
weak after the battery was low for the difficult cold start earlier. After
I left the field Sat. the guys pulled the gascolator which was difficult to get
to. The screen was plugged up with debris and that was the problem. I don't
know why the starting fluid did not cause it to start. They cleaned the screen
and the engine fired right up. Glad it was so simple.

You need 300 RPM in order to create a spark. At 50F=2C the battery should b
e in very good condition and fully charged.

Subject: JabiruEngine-List: Engine Quit
Guys
Last Sat I visited a nearby airport and met a friend who had just towed his
high wing LSA back to his hangar. His Jabiru 2200 had been a little hard t
o start due to the 50 degree temp. While taxiing out his engine quit cold t
urkey and never fired again.
While I was there we checked for fuel=2C drained the gascolator and tried i
t again. We tried a shot of starting fluid to no avail. The way it quit did
not sound like fuel but it was the easiest to check. We removed spark plu
g wires from the rear cylinder and turned the mags on and spun the engine o
n both mags ( coils ) one at a time using a spare plug and good ground wire
. We could see not spark from either coil. We removed the ground wire from
both coils to eliminate any wiring or switch problems and tried it again st
ill no fire.
We did not check the gap on the coils with a feeler gauge but it looked to
be about .010 and it would not have changed on both coils that quickly - th
e bolts were tight. I do not know what could be common to both coils except
the magnets and flywheel.
Has anyone had this experience. I would like to know since it may happen to
my 3300 and others.
