Some guys in Australia have devised an oil catcher which sits on top of the engine, in that oil breather line. It catches the oil normally blown out and returns it to the engine, so you are using only what you burn (not what gets blown out). I have one on my 2200, using PVC pipe fittings and Scotchbrite stainless steel pan scourer inside. And I run the oil pretty much at the bottom of the dipstick, as before the catcher, any more would end up in the oil bottle.

Thanks guys. I flew 2 hours non-stop last weekend and left one element of the electric ice eliminator on at all times. No rough running problems so assuming the problem was icing. Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=418890#418890

Jab recommended running the level at the add mark on the early shallow sump engines. I used a punch to drive the dip stick down into the cap the distance between full and add. Now the full mark is .2 qts less volume. G. I think you are referring to the MotionAero separator. I have one on my Jabiru 3300 engine, very happy with it. I too installed the Motion Aero separator on my 3300 and have no oil dripping out of the vent tube. It is a very nice unit.
