The early manuals (JEM3301-2) for solid lifter engines with thick-finned heads list 150C (302F) cruise and 175C (347F) climb temperatures. Later manuals (JEM3304-6) for engines with thin-finned heads and hydraulic lifters list 180C (356F) cruise and 200C (392F) climb. In all circumstances, cooler is better. I would be very worried running my engine at those temperatures. When in doubt, follow the tech tip at US Jabiru or Jabiru service bulleting JSB016, available from the Jabiru website. First - You have to see if your probes are reading correctly... Do a calibration and side-by-side test of all the probes with a comparison to a lab grade standard thermometer. If you do not have access to such a unit I have found that the LASER Thermometers are very accurate. Second - You have to know where the temperature reading were taken for the report. Third - What is the +/- tolerance of the units used for the test... And what is it for the probes you are using? Fourth - What can you do to lower your CHT's other than pulling back on power? How are your baffles? How big is your EXIT cowl area? Rule of thumb - The EXIT area should be TWICE the size of the Air Intake Area... Do the MATH! Use a ruller to obtain the correct sizes. You are correct though, if you are running hot look for the well established solutions so you can comfortably run at normal cruise speeds. If your engine temps are ok and the cylinder head bolts don't move ay 20# your good to go. My 3300 SN 346, solid lifter, thick fins so I am using the lower F numbers. The extra lip helps increase the low pressure, essentially 'sucking' more air flow through the engine compartment. I fabricated a lip extension from .020 aluminum, rivited it on. Works like a charm. APPLEFELD" Subject: Re: JabiruEngine-List: Re: JabiruEngine-List Digest: 2 Msgs - 08/23/14 I fully agree. The most important factor to correct higher CHT is OUTFLOW. Increase the opening in the bottom and add a larger lip to the bottom curve. I duct taped mine on until I found the right size and shape (stayed on with no problem as long as no oil on the fiberglass). Once the correct size then permanently rivet - remember this is not a structural piece so any rivets even hardware store will work. I few for nearly 3 hours yesterday, temps near 80 and high humidity and a cloud deck from 2500 to 5000 feet. I climbed to above the clouds in a continuous climb and only one cylinder got to 230 but all temps returned to 260-285 range once I lowered the noise to cruise and stayed there. I have an older, early SSN solid lifter 3300 with nearly 400 hours.
