From: drice003@woh.rr.com found this in my notes use it if you want or save There is a small hole in the front of the Carby. It should be in about the 7 o'clock position. IT looks like a brass plug but should actually have a tiny hole in it. What it does is supply air to the idle circuit. If it becomes plugged the Idle fuel flow will increase about 3 times its normal amount. IT will also cause the engine to fly rich even with the jet needle set two notches too lean and the idle screw locked in tight.. Because the hole is near the bottom of the carb it is susceptible to debris build up and moisture contamination. You may need to remove the carb and poke a wire in to push out the crud. While you have it apart , also check that the Idle jet mixer cross vent holes are also clear. Blow through the holes to make sure all is good. Also Note the Jet needle clip position for future ref.
