    Subject: alternator voltage output
    From: "curts63" <curts63@verizon.net>
My question is this, what is the normal output of the alternator in voltage? My volt meter is reading up to 14.7 volts when running around 3000rpm. Is this normal or should it max out around 13.7? If this is high, I guess I need a new regulator? My problem is the Garmin system seems to fluctuate as the voltage gets up to 14.5 or more volts. When you pull back the throttle and let the voltage drop, things settle down. Thanks, Curt Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=439131#439131

Is this normal or should it max out around 13.7? 13.8 is the MINIMUM needed to fully charge a lead-acid battery . . . but it takes a LONG time to top off. Starting batteries in vehicles are generally recharged at 14.2 plus/minus 0.2 and 14.7 is not too high. >If this is high, I guess I need a new regulator? Is this a piece of aircraft hardware? The voltage level you cite should be no problem. What system are we talking about?
