Tim,
I'm a little confused also. Here is what I would do:
Disconnect the wires at the mag.
Next, what make and model of mag switch are you using?
At the switch if you may have a start position, when starting the right
side of the switch grounds.
The left side is open.
You can also, check for continuity at the very end of the wires back at the
mags.
If all this continuity checks out your system should work.

Barry,
I think Rob answered my question. The proof will come when I try to fire it up!
I use toggle switches to turn the "mags" on and off. I Disconnected the wires
from the "mags" and checked them for shorts and both are doing what they are supposed
to.

Ahhhhhhh. I think you just answered your question...
Tim,
Since you are using toggle switches... Which are VERY GOOD... If a switch
is installed incorrectly... Upside down, the ON becomes your OFF. There
is also the possibility that the switch is manufactured incorrectly. YOU
KNOW, with all this crap we get from China it is very easy for the switch
to be incorrect. Just check it out on an ohm meter.
Oh, I missed Rob's answer. Hmmmm, I don't see it on the list.
