American Auto fuel is NOT high enough Octane for the Jabiru. I was using 92 Oct. Non Ethanol Marine fuel with an Octane booster. The booster would break down unless it was used quickly. The engine requires 95 Oct RON which is about 3 points higher than 95 Oct.MON ( American Rating ). Using Auto fuel in a high compression engine will cause detonation. Also most Bing carburetors lean the mixture between 2500 and 2800 RPM. Watch your EGT and CHT. I am running a 260 main jet and 290 plus .002 Needle jet and I still can not operate in those RPM ranges. Bobby ( age 79 ) Zodiac 601 XL "B" Jabiru 3300 S/N 1141 Sensenich 64" x 51" Prop Bing Carb 260 Main & 290 Plus .002 Needle Jet Status - Flying 280 hrs. Do Not Archive

Did you think to check each mag? -----Original Message----- From: owner-jabiruengine-list-server@matronics.com [mailto:owner-jabiruengine-list-server@matronics.com] On Behalf Of simmor2 Sent: Friday, July 14, 2017 4:08 PM Subject: JabiruEngine-List: Engine miss in flight --> <4rcsimmons@comcast.net> Hello, Yesterday evening, I flew about 40 minutes. As I was turning on bad and bringing rpm down to around 1700 rpm, the engine began missing. It constant but little short shutters if you will. Got to the ground with no problems but now I am concerned. I recently finished my condition inspection. And have had several hours of flights since. Any of you folks experience anything similar? I have created a hit list, however, any advice from practical experience would be appreciated. Regards, Rich Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=471006#471006

The American system is AKI (antiknock index) and is listed on the pumps . The Australian system is RON (research octane number ) . According to the published conversion charts RON x .95 = AKI . So the requirement of 95 RON from Jabiru equates to 90 AKI . Ethanol free high test has a 93 AKI rating which is well above the requirement for the engine . Regular 87 AKI and mid grade 89 AKI are NOT suitable for the engine .
