Bob,
Thanks for the offer, but no thanks -- I am pulling out all the Blue
Mountain Wiring, You are making a good decision to not try to install
it. Prior to this incident my unit had been sent back twice to BM when
they were in business. I think Greg was a very bright programmer, but
not a good business man. Sort of a 'ricochet rabbit' -- implementing
features that had not been thoroughly vetted through testing.
For what it is worth -- I am installing a Grand Rapids Sport along with
their engine monitor. Some of the deciding points:
1. If you want to upgrade to a higher level, you can by only paying the
difference in cost between the two units
2. GPS data base information is free (BM charged several hundred $/year
for a subscription)
3. They are capable of driving an autopilot, but don't put it in their
unit -- their philosophy is that if the GRT unit fails and you have an
autopilot, it is a second source of nav data that is independent. They
recommend either Tru-track or Trio
4. They support XM weather, which was always a 'promise' with BM.
I bought the Sport version, rather than the HX (which has synthetic
vision with terrain), and it is configured such that I can add an
autopilot and XM weather at a later date (when my finances recover from
the hit). This will get me flying so I can get the Phase 1 done
(eventually)

Bill,
I don't know if my Blue Mountain unit would do you any good but you
would be welcome to it if you think it might work. It is one of the
original units and has never been installed. I have already written it
off and have no plans to install it since Blue Mountain has gone out of
busniess and Greg shows no signs of giving any support to his former
customers. I am really not too surprised that BM didn't make it since
they were priced much higher than the current competition and they
always seemed to have support issues.
By the way, what EFIS system have you decided to go with instead of
the BM unit?

My last flight was Aug 6th. Total of 10 hours on the plane.
My Blue Mountain EFIS started failing (failed) on that last flight and
started doing 'barrel rolls' on the ground. Blue Mountain had closed
shop, but stated that they would still provide support and repair
services.
I made email contact through their website at
support@bluemountainavionics.com and he indicated that my unit could be
repaired. I sent the unit down to them in august, no one was there to
accept delivery for 3 attempts, so it came back. Further email and I
sent it down again -- this time picked up.
Received email on 9/25 indicating that it was in final stages of
calibration.
Received email invoice on 9/29, and responded with appropriate CC
information
Have heard nothing since, CC not charged, unit not shipped, multiple
e-mails not responded to -- NOTHING.
Last Friday I made contact with County Court Clerk down there and
determined that they had a court date on the 20th -- someone suing for
'breach of contract'.
I am starting tomorrow to remove the Blue Mountain servos, and
display, to rework the panel with something else.
Needless to say :-(

Bill,
We do not hear much from you.
How is your project going?
How many hours did you make on the plane?
How is your Mazda engine and transmission working?
What speed have you achieved?
Any findings, experiences, etc, etc?
Jerzy

Check out Dynon's new "SKYVIEW" to replace your defunct BM PFD/GPS.
I doubt if Dynon will ever go belly up.

The Dynon "SKYVIEW" is what I want to eventually put in my airplane.
