1/27/2010 Hello Mike, I find that stainless steel hex socket (Allen) drive screws give a very attractive high tech look. They were used on my instrument panel and many other places on the airplane including out of sight. Also where possible I used stainless steel Torx (6 lobe) drive screws in many applications. In fact one would be hard pressed to find a Phillips drive screw any place on my airplane. Check out Microfasteners for a source of the above hex socket and Torx drive screws: http://www.microfasteners.com/ For driving these screws you need the right tools. A cordless screw driver with the right insert bits makes working with these screws a pleasure. See here for some handy kits: http://www.chapmanmfg.com/default.htm 'OC' Says: "The best investment we can make is the effort to gather and understand knowledge." PS: After years of search efforts in many different places I finally got Microfasteners to create stainless steel, 100 degree countersink, flat head, Torx (6 lobe) drive screws. These are used throughout my plane where possible. I know of no other source for these screws: http://www.microfasteners.com/catalog/products/SSCFCMXS.cfm ============================================ ----- Original Message ----- From: "Mike Pienaar" <mjpienaar@shaw.ca> Sent: Wednesday, January 27, 2010 2:16 AM Subject: KIS-List: ANDAIR Fuel Selector If any body used the ANDAIR fuel selector what esthetically pleasing screws did you use to secure the bezel Thanks Mike

1/27/2010 Hello Mike, Definitely the hard rivets. Attached is a picture of a KIS TR-1 that had an aileron push tube disconnect. It was never conclusively proved what caused the end of the aileron tube to become disconnected. Could have sheared off. 'OC' Says: "The best investment we can make is the effort to gather and understand knowledge." PS: Very dramatic story of how the pilot survived. ============================================== ----- Original Message ----- From: "Mike Pienaar" <mjpienaar@shaw.ca> Sent: Wednesday, January 27, 2010 2:20 AM Subject: KIS-List: Elevator and aileron push tubes Does one use soft or hard (A or AD) aluminum rivets to secure the threaded rod ends in the elevator and aileron push/pull tubes Thanks Mike
