Subject: | Joy Stick Gust Lock |
All;
I never liked the gust locks used on airplanes with joy sticks like ours.
Then I saw a gust lock on a Diamond aircraft and figured I could make a
similar one for my airplane. This is what I came up with.

I used 1/2" PVC pipe to make a mock-up then took it to a tool/die maker and
had it made in aluminum. The adjustable straps and clips are the kind used
on a back pack. Also, I made it so you can break it into two parts making
for easy storage and handling when not in use.

It attatches to the lower part of the joy stick with the "fork" hooking on
to the rudder pedals. The straps wrap around the main rod just under the
pilot grip and connect to attach points on each side of the instrument
panel. The attach points are held by an AN3 bolt so the clips can be moved
out of the way when not in use.

When it is installed, it holds everything firmly in place basically
preventing the rudder, elevator and ailerons from moving. Additionally, you
can not get into the airplane with it on, preventing you from taking off
with the gust lock on.
