Alfred ,
I ( and sure many others) look forward to seeing the performance model.
>From memory I recall some time ago Rich or Mark or Vance stating that it was
a "modified" 63(2)-215, not sure what it means but it may need to be
considered.
I also hope you find a suitable Prince Prop and get it approved by the PFA
, and if you decide to sell the Chris Lodge Prop let me know , i am
interested.

Hi Keith
Weather is still beastly hear, so haven't been down to the hangar again as
yet. I'll measure up when I do and let you know. In the meantime have spent a
weeks holidays building a complete flight performance model for the KIS from
first principle aerodynamics equations, design data points and 63(2)-215 wing
performance data.
Will be sharing that with the group soon. The model shows that a 69 or 70"
pitch will suit my need. But I need to be sure about the static RPM. So I'll
be asking Lonnie Prince for torque curves for 70"x 68/69/70" to ensure that
my engine can swing it fast enough upward from 30 knots IAS.
Regards,
Alfred.

Mmmmmm ... I'm scratching my head here (trying to mis the few hairs I have left
:o)
With some 30 years of working with these equations I struggle to understand how
acceleration in itself can cause damage.
That is why an autumn leave - though structurally flimsy - can execute maneuvers
we can only dream of. So if you weigh less you can handle more acceleration
ipso facto - no problem.
Problem arises when your weight is unequally distributed (i.e. empty wings and
two beefy occupants). That's when you'll break something if your don;t watch
your G's. Strap in a most petite pilot and fill up the wings with more weight
then she has and she'll be able to throw that plane around like you wouldn't believe
- no trouble.
Just my two bits ...

Alfred;
Glad you enjoyed the write-ups. We have more stories of other flying trips
on our web page www.puertoricoflyer.com
I also have a sample pilot operating handbook there. It is a very large file
so it is best to download it frrom the webpage, "stories & adventure"
section. Since I am a retired US Air Force officer, I can't fly without
checklists so I have a set made up. I attached a copy so you can have an
example.
Have fun with your airplane and I hope you enjoy it as much as we are
enjoyng ours.

Careful with pulling G's.- It's a lot more than the wings.- The engine
mount comes to mind.- It's still holding up a- 200-300 pound engine reg
ardless of the flying wieght of the airplane.

Hi Alfred,
I was interested to hear that you are planning a trip from London to Cape
Town and back. Are you going to be partaking in the Alex Henshaw challenge?
I am based in Johannesburg, SA and a good friend of mine, Chalkie Stobbart,
broke Alex's original record in May 2009. This was subsequently beaten last
year by Steve Noujaim. Another attempt was also made by Tony Smith last
year, but this ended unsuccessfully in Nambia.
Look forward to hearing more about your planned trip.
All the best,
John Petrie

One way the airfoil is 'modified' is that the control surfaces are triangul
ar when the airfoil is very curved.- I think the problem is that the airf
oil was not modified to match the triangular cross section of the flaps/ail
erons.- Rich hotwire cut foam control surfaces to match the airfoil on th
e prototype.- I kind of wish I would have done the same thing.
