Thursday I woke to driving rain again , and a forecast of more storms including tornado warnings, i thought they must have been joking as this was still March so decided again to stay put , ( just as well when a tornado hit the field). Friday morning was blue skies , so into the car , "Yippee" finally off to Sun n Fun , i then spent 3.5 hours in a traffic jam trying to get into the mud carparks. Finally got in to the show ground at 14:30 just as the airshow was starting , which was nice but nothing special ( particularly since it consisted mainly all day of the Blue Angels doing practice routines , in preparation for their Saturday show ) , Once inside with the exception of seeing all the carnage from the previous day, (which was breaking my heart seeing the owners particularly homebuilders trying to salvage what they could ) there were just a handful of planes in the homebuilt parking area , and having spent too much time trying to photograph either the blues or the raptor , only managed a quick visit to two of the hangers , before it all closed at 5:00p Saturday i left for Europe again ( "Delta" lost my Luggage , but they have now found it in Detroit ?) , so my dream vacation was not a success, Question : what is the weather in Oshkosh normally like , before I book my tickets Keith ________________________________ Message 2 _____________________________________ Time: 11:13:29 AM PST US From: Richard Trickel Subject: KIS-List: Re: sun N what Yep this was the trip from hell.- Sorry you hit it bad this year.- I ha ve been there a bunch of times and normally it is great.- Oshkosh can be the same.- I have seen it 100 degrees and very humid to storms and then f reezing.- Just got to be prepared.- You can learn to see planes in the rain. : ) Rich --- On Mon, 4/4/11, Keith.Miller@esa.int wrote: From: Keith.Miller@esa.int Subject: KIS-List: Sun N Fun Well I survived Sun'n Fun , living in Europe this- was my first opportunity to have a holiday in USA during one of the two big- airshows: Yippee !!!!!! , arriving in- Flori da on Monday to torrential- rain- , i- decided- not to go on the Tuesday - as it "might be a bit Muddy ", Wednesday- ,- the weather channel was advising all but essential travel since- a major storm was sweeping across- central Florida- , so i- didn't go again- , thinking it could only get better . From: Jason Hills Does anyone have a metal prop on at TR-1? I'm considering a prop change in the next year or so. I'm hoping to get more efficiency and not worry as much about rain damage. At a minimum I'll likely change to a different pitch wood prop. Since my engine overhaul 2 years ago I can push 2800+ rpm at any altitude. It'd be nice to get a bit more cruise. ...Jason ________________________________ Message 5 _____________________________________ Time: 02:24:53 PM PST US From: "F. One thing to think about is that propellers of the same diameter and pitch will be different from different companies.- Everyone has their own way o f filling in the details. - Personally there is no way I would get a metal fixed pitch prop.- I went with a prince composite prop.- A metal prop will be significantly heavier so I'd check-the effect on your CG before you buy.--- - Also, you will have metal prop and engine combination-with unknown fatigu e characteristics.- Wood/composite propelers have much better fatigue cha racteristics.- It's worth noting that metal propellers are not allowed in formula one air racing due metal fatigue and in flight failures of metal p ropellers.- - The one advantage of a metal prop is that-the pitch-can be changed-(y ou don't want to watch them repitch it though). - I think running 2800 rpm wide open in cruise is perfect.- - If your going to spend money on a new prop then it's worth at least concide ring a constant speed prop if your engine is set up for it.- I'm on the f ence for my airplane.- I think you can get a used/rebuilt prop and govern er for about $6,000 and it weighs about 50 pounds.- There are lighter con stant speed props out there but they are $10-12,000, but maybe you can find one used.- - Anyhow, hope this was helpful... - Scott --- On Mon, 4/4/11, F.
