Those look great Galin !! Bill Schertz KIS Cruiser #4045 N343BS Phase one testing Completed From: Galin Hernandez Sent: Friday, June 03, 2011 8:01 PM Subject: KIS-List: AVEO Powerburst LED Lights I completed the installation of AVEO Powerburst LED combination Position/Strobe lights replacing the old WHELEN lights. I deceided to change them since the AVEO lights are so much smaller in size, draw only a fraction of the current, have a MTBW exceeding my lifetime and have no interference issues like regular strobes. The mounting pattern is very different so I had to patch the old holes, re drill the new pattern then paint the tips. I used a 6 wire exterior trailer hitch electrical coupler ($3.99 at O'Reilly's) and used only 4 of the wires so now I have 2 spares. The units look great and are extremely bright. Gives the wingtips a clean sleek look. Galin

Boy that is a "loaded" question. When I installed them a few years ago they created a decent discussion about their use on this forum. I did some flight testing and could not find any "significant" increase of performance. I would have to dig up my numbers for exact details but I think I showed an increase of about 1-2 kts in cruise speed and a reduction of about the same in stall. BUT, these numbers can easily be attributed to the not so exact measuring instruments I have in the airplane. This is probably due to the "low" airspeeds this airplane operates at compared to the 400+ kts jets fly at. There are some very specific opinions about this issue here and it is important to listen to them. In other words I really did not prove these wingtips do anything, positive or negative, to the performance of the airplane. However, in my opinion, they accent the airplane's beautiful lines and look so cool I kept them on instead of the original wingtips. We create quite a buzz everywhere we fly into. After we land it normally takes us around 45 minutes before we can walk away from the airplane just answering questions about the airplane and the wingtips. When we landed at Sun-N-Fun this year it took us over 1hr before we could walk away, It took almost the same time when we were going to leave that afternoon because of how many persons were surrounding the airplane asking questions.. We have been invited to several fly-ins in to have our airplane on display to attract others. Like I said before I am pleased with how they perform and think they look SO COOL!
