Hello Keith, I do not think it has been done but it is possible to fly a KIS with standard tanks to Oshkosh from Europe. A long time ago I read a book written by a ferry pilot that had flown the Atlantic many time in small planes with stock tanks. If I recall correctly the longest leg is only about 550 miles. So you should fuel up and go for it! Then tell us all about it. Assuming you are right about the longest leg and having sufficient fuel capacity, and assuming I had the required Instrument rating, an IFR equiped KIS, HF Radio, Survival kit , Money for the fuel , i would never manage to get the most important clearance "permission from my wife" . You are quite right , and a great trip it sounded, but in the 5 days it took to fly from Europe and the cost of the fuel alone, me and my wife can enjoy the Gin and tonics on the airliner and drive up and down the lakes in the rental car , laze around our vacation rental on green bay and I am more or less guaranteed to get to Oshkosh whatever the weather might bring. We do have a close friend who is making the trip over in his Mooney so anyone going, please watch out for a dark metallic grey Mooney M20C with a rainbow painted on it. registered D-EDDN. One of the first builders flew a KIS from Europe and few years back to Oshkosh. As I recall he took the front seat out and put a fuel tank there. My memory is not even close to perfect so someone else may be able to add to or correct this.
