10/17/2011 Sad, Sad, Sad. Rich was not the best business man or communicator in the world, but his heart and efforts within the aviation community were always forthcoming. Now that we have lost both Rich and Vance I feel like an orphan. Of the original Tri R Technology crew that I knew, only Bill Grote is left. Ms. Trickel I am so sorry for your loss. I bought one of his TR-1 kits in 1993. It was a pleasure to get to know Rich, he was very talented and a nice man. He will long be remembered by his planes flying all around the world. My condolences to you and your family. Subject: Re: Rich Trickle
Galen and other Rich Trickle friends, I talked with one of his daughters, Nancy, today. She was so happy to hear from one of her dad's old friends. She and Rich's Wife, Ying< are trying to get the wife and son our of Brazil and back to the US. Rich has been cremated so he can travel easily. Nancy said she had been googling around and was surprised at how well known her dad was in the industry. She asked me to collect stories and anecdotes about Rich so she can share them with Rich Jr when he grows up a little (he is 9 years old now). She also mentioned when she was 9, she used to get to go to the shop where they were doing Lanceairs at the time. She said somewhere out there a Lanceair is flying with a Nancy wing tip on it. Feel free to send me any stories you think his son would enjoy in a few years. Also, Nancy would like to accumulate KIS memorability. Rich had indicated he would like to see the KIS prototype at the Oshkosh museum sometime. If anyone knows how to get KIS SN #1 out of South America, Nancy would like to hear from you, Drop me a line and I will forward it to her. (She asked that her email not be boadcast -- she gets tons of spam like the rest of us.) I told her about the missing man formation that our EAA chapter does as a memorial to our recently departed members. She inquired if I thought there might be four KIS aircraft that could do that. Any ideas along that line will be appreciated. And now some of the sad details. The "little" operation Rich mentioned last Feb was for bladder cancer. They removed the cancerous tissue and made some remarkable repairs. Some where along the line, they discovered that the Cancer had metastised to his bones which Rich described as "early Stages". At the end of September, leaks in the bladder replacement were discovered and surgically repaired. At time, the doctor gave him a week. He lasted until Friday according to my notes from talking with Nancy. It sounds so like Rich to make small of his problems. Nancy shared another story about Rich. When he finished the Voltaire 400 in Brazil they had the corporate test pilot fly it. Rich groused mildly about it since it was the first plane he ever built that he didn't get to test fly. So like Rich. ---- Galin Hernandez <galinhdz@gmail.com> wrote: > Oh no! I never knew Rich personally but I could tell he had a real interest in his work. I purchased a kit approximately 10 years ago (#102) and just flew the hours of it last year. Rich was always there to answer any questions I had. He will definitely be missed. Jesse Wright
