=C2-
How tall of a pilot can fit comfortably in these planes (I'm 6' 2" plus)?
=C2-
I'm 6' and there's little head room to spare in my plane but it's probably
because I'm using adjustable seats from a Mazda Miata,
which are thicker than the what the kit calls for.

Mine is about 85% done on the body parts and has no engine or avionics, so
I never flew it.=C2-

Subject: | Re: Super Cruiser |
Barry,=0A=0AFor various reasons related to LIFE, I am still in the process
of building my =0AKIS Cruiser.- The project is currently on an extended h
old yet again but I will =0Atry to give some answers to your questions.=0A
=0AThe capability of the KIS Cruiser to accomodate a tall pilot is entirely
a =0Afactor of how the builder installs the pilot seating and the installa
tion of the =0Arudder pedals along with some variation in the instrument pa
nel.- Several =0Abuilders have used the fixed seating and varied the cush
ions and/or the rudder =0Apedal placement to accomodate height adjustment.
- Others have gone with various =0Aforms of adjustable seats that can sli
de on rails and offer some degree of =0Aadjustment of back position which i
s what I am doing.- I know of one builder who =0Awas several inches talle
r than you who built and flew his KIS Cruiser for =0Aseveral years.- I ca
n't speak to your instance specifically since I am height =0Achallanged at
5'8'' and my wife is barely 5'1''.- In my case, I needed seats =0Athat of
fered adjustment both upward and downward as well as forward and back.- I
=0Aadapted some seats from a small car by stripping to the frame and rebui
lding the =0Aseats with temperfoam.- Gives 3-4 inches of forward to back
adjustment with seat =0Abacks that fully recline.=0A=0AFlight characteristi
cs and actual performance varies depending on engine, prop, =0Aand finished
weight but the numbers don't seem to be far off from the published =0Avalu
es.- I will ask some of the currently flying pilots to chime in on these
but =0Ayou can find some of the details on my website.-- =0Ahttp://www.
kisbuild.onfinal18.com/=0A=0AThe engine you mention is probably the Mattitu
ck Superiof IOF-360 engine and =0Awhile I don't have specific numbers on th
at engine, it is the same one I am =0Aplanning on using and has a successfu
l record in RV-6's and RV-9s.- It is not a =0ALycoming if it is the XP360
but a very good engine that I think you will be =0Apleased with.- The FA
DEC system has proven to be very good in those who are =0Aflying but suppor
t has not been the best since Continental bought the company.- =0AThere i
s a good support group for the FADEC at Aerosance_Fadec@yahoogroups.com.-
=0AThey have participants who are currently flying the FADEC on the Superi
or XP360 =0Aengine as well as one guy from Mattituck.=0A-=0AAs for who to
talk to about flying....Galin Hernandez and Bob Andersen would be =0Amy re
commendations.- There are several others currently flying but Galin has
=0Abeen flying the wings off his plane in just about every condition from s
evere =0Aclear to vfr icing (not recommended).- Bob has likewise been doi
ng a lot of =0Avaried flying with his plane.- Both are shown on my websit
e.- My only experience =0Awith flying the KIS is also documented on my we
bsite.- I would be happy to talk =0Awith you if it would help.=0A=0A=0ABo
b Reed=0A=0APS:- I still believe it is one of the best 4-place aircraft a
round-if you are =0Anot looking for a bus.- It combines economy of the
IO-360 engine size with the =0Aload capacity of a Cessna-172 with a lot mor
e speed.- It will carry two adult =0Amen and two adult women is relative
comfort but isn't intended for 4 large men =0Aalthough I have been on board
with 4 full sized adults.- My goal was a plane =0Athat would accomodate
my wife and myself along with all the luggage she could =0Acarry or my daug
hter and some luggage.- For that it would be perfect.=0A=0A-=0A=0A=0A

Minimum speed is quite a bit greater than listed.=0A-I think it is due to
the Pitot tube mounted below the wing in the prototype and =0Amost of the

Hello,
It would help to know where you are located.
The 4 seat KIS is the best 4 seat kits out there in my opinion. It is reall
y a shame the business
did not work out. The builder manual is very poor compared with what you ge
t for an RV-10.
I am 6'2" and i was fine in the two cruisers I have been in.
If the fuselage top has not been bonded on then you can still add headroom
like i did on my 2 seat KIS. The factory cruiser was at least 200 pounds l
ighter than the current
factory RV-10 if they have the same engine.
I would personally concider installing an IO-540 in the cruiser.
I have a parallel valve 360 with ported heads, 10:1 pistons, and mechanical f
uel injection
in my 2 seat kis. 220 HP, although i do not normally run it over 180 and ne
ver worry about hot/high.
I would much rather have my engine than the 180 HP fadec engine.
I don't think you can get anything but a stock engine with the fadec.
I would love to have a cruiser with a 540 built like my 360.
Still, put off buying an engine and avionics until you really, really need i
t. i have met a lot of people with 10 year old $25k
engine sitting in the corner or expensive avionics that are outdated by the t
ime the airplane flies.
Cheers,
Scott
