I have a similar exhaust on my 360, except it is not quite as long out the back of the cowl.- I only have one hangar just aft of the firewall and no ball joints.- The only problem I have had is I used a 3/4"x0.015 inch st rip of-stainless steel to hang the exhaust.- It cracked after 125 hours or so.- I just have two strips of the same dimensions now.--=0A- =0AScott=0A =0A=0A________________________________=0A From: Robert Reed <ro bertr237@att.net>=0ATo: "kis-list@matronics.com" <kis-list@matronics.com> =0ASent: Wednesday, September 18, 2013 9:01 PM=0ASubject: Re: KIS-List: Tri al Fit of 4 into 1 Exhaust=0A =0A=0A=0AJerzy,=0A-=0ANo, I haven't done t he first engine start yet and it will probably be after the first of the ye ar before I do.- My single objective right now is to finish ALL glasswork before the temperature starts falling and then do the prime and painting d uring the winter cool weather.=0A-=0AEach of the exhaust tubes have a bal l joint in the system to allow some flexability.- I have a hangar point b ehind the collector and two on the firewall.- Will be using flexable hang er straps with stainless clamps.- Vibration should not be a problem but I have learned there are no guarantees.=0A-=0ABob=0A =0A=0A_______________ _________________=0A From: jerzy krasinski <jerzy_krasinski@sbcglobal.net> =0ATo: "kis-list@matronics.com" <kis-list@matronics.com> =0ASent: Wednesday , September 18, 2013 9:55 PM=0ASubject: Re: KIS-List: Trial Fit of 4 into 1 Exhaust=0A =0A=0A=0ADid you run the engine with it?=0AWill it survivwe th e vibrations?=0A=0AJerzy=0A =0A=0A________________________________=0A From: Robert Reed <robertr237@att.net>=0ATo: "kis-list@matronics.com" <kis-list@ matronics.com> =0ASent: Saturday, September 14, 2013 10:40 PM=0ASubject: KI S-List: Trial Fit of 4 into 1 Exhaust=0A =0A=0A=0AThree and 1 / 2 years af ter I did the initial mockup for the 4 into 1 exhaust system I finally rece ived it this week and did the trial fit today.- The workmanship and the f it were excellent and it has good clearance everywhere.- That PVC mockup process really works great.=0A=0AI am working on the final glass work on th e cowling now and this will help determine any clearance issues with the bo ttom of the cowling.- I have decided against the extended fairing from th e lower cowling under the fuselage.- I may add it later after the plane i s flying if I find that cooling is not an issue.- =0A=0AWith any luck I w ill finish the last of the fiberglass work on the cowling and-the windscr een by the end of September or first of October.- Trying to complete glas s before cool weather.- It's been a long and very hot summer working on t he plane but progress is being made although far to slowly.- Who knows, a nother 15 years and I might just finish this thing.=0A=0ABob Reed=0A=0A- ===================

Has anybody here converted their engine from the old Magnetos to the "P" Mag with the built in generator? If so what do you think about the benefits versus the cost? My magnetos have just hit the 500hr point and I am debating whether to overhaul them or just bite the bullet and go with two new "P" mags. :0)

I have two mounting points on either side of the tailpipe following the 4-1 collector.- My initial thought was to put a clamp over that position and use a flexible hangar on both sides.- This would give some movement to t he system and dampen any vibration.- Not sure though if that will be enou gh support for the entire system.- The mechanic that I am working with is coming out this weekend to help me locate and drill for the exhaust temp p robes so I will discuss the options with him.- I was going to try and dri ll them myself but he convinced me that it would be much easier to use his jig and drill it rather than to destroy some of-my bits-trying to penet rate that stainless steel.=0A-=0ABob=0A =0A=0A___________________________ _____=0A From: Scott Stearns <sstearns2@yahoo.com>=0ATo: "kis-list@matronic s.com" <kis-list@matronics.com> =0ASent: Thursday, September 19, 2013 12:42 PM=0ASubject: Re: KIS-List: Trial Fit of 4 into 1 Exhaust=0A =0A=0A=0AI h ave a similar exhaust on my 360, except it is not quite as long out the bac k of the cowl.- I only have one hangar just aft of the firewall and no ba ll joints.- The only problem I have had is I used a 3/4"x0.015 inch strip of-stainless steel to hang the exhaust.- It cracked after 125 hours or so.- I just have two strips of the same dimensions now.--=0A-=0ASc ott=0A =0A=0A________________________________=0A From: Robert Reed <robertr 237@att.net>=0ATo: "kis-list@matronics.com" <kis-list@matronics.com> =0ASen t: Wednesday, September 18, 2013 9:01 PM=0ASubject: Re: KIS-List: Trial Fit of 4 into 1 Exhaust=0A =0A=0A=0AJerzy,=0A-=0ANo, I haven't done the fir st engine start yet and it will probably be after the first of the year bef ore I do.- My single objective right now is to finish ALL glasswork befor e the temperature starts falling and then do the prime and painting during the winter cool weather.=0A-=0AEach of the exhaust tubes have a ball join t in the system to allow some flexability.- I have a hangar point behind the collector and two on the firewall.- Will be using flexable hanger str aps with stainless clamps.- Vibration should not be a problem but I have learned there are no guarantees.=0A-=0ABob=0A =0A=0A_____________________ ___________=0A From: jerzy krasinski <jerzy_krasinski@sbcglobal.net>=0ATo: "kis-list@matronics.com" <kis-list@matronics.com> =0ASent: Wednesday, Septe mber 18, 2013 9:55 PM=0ASubject: Re: KIS-List: Trial Fit of 4 into 1 Exhaus t=0A =0A=0A=0ADid you run the engine with it?=0AWill it survivwe the vibra tions?=0A=0AJerzy=0A =0A=0A________________________________=0A From: Robert Reed <robertr237@att.net>=0ATo: "kis-list@matronics.com" <kis-list@matroni cs.com> =0ASent: Saturday, September 14, 2013 10:40 PM=0ASubject: KIS-List: Trial Fit of 4 into 1 Exhaust=0A =0A=0A=0AThree and 1 / 2 years after I d id the initial mockup for the 4 into 1 exhaust system I finally received it this week and did the trial fit today.- The workmanship and the fit were excellent and it has good clearance everywhere.- That PVC mockup process really works great.=0A=0AI am working on the final glass work on the cowli ng now and this will help determine any clearance issues with the bottom of the cowling.- I have decided against the extended fairing from the lower cowling under the fuselage.- I may add it later after the plane is flyin g if I find that cooling is not an issue.- =0A=0AWith any luck I will fin ish the last of the fiberglass work on the cowling and-the windscreen by the end of September or first of October.- Trying to complete glass befor e cool weather.- It's been a long and very hot summer working on the plan e but progress is being made although far to slowly.- Who knows, another 15 years and I might just finish this thing.=0A=0ABob Reed=0A=0A--- =0A=0A =0A=0Ahttp://www.matron://forums.matronics.com/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">http://forums.========== =0A=0A ==============

I have had dual pmags on my parallel valve IO-360 since new.- It has 185 hours on it and 3 years now.- I had to send the pmags back once for an "A D" and I had-to send one of them back due to problems with that mag keepi ng the timing.- All I paid was shipping both times.- I have never had a problem in flight though.- You should see a noticable improvement in fue l efficiency and a big improvement in starting and hot starts.-=0A-=0AI think the pmags are the best option out there.- I originally had aircraf t spark plugs, but switched to auto plugs.- They say the auto plugs give a bit more power and they are cheap.- I just put new ones in every annual .- =0A-=0AI initally set the timing right at TDC, but the engine would sometimes kick back on starting.- I recommend setting it to 5 degrees pas t TDC to elimate any chance of kickback.- Then use the high advance curve (which is the same as the low advance curve-with the timing set at-0 i nstead of 5 degrees past TDC).- This-was okayed with the pmag guys.- I also have 10:1 compression which probably makes kick back worse.=0A-=0A >From a cost standpoint it probably makes sense just to overhaul your mags. - You can get an overhaul kit and do it yourself pretty cheap.- If you were looking at buying new mags vs the pmags I would be 100% for the pmags. - If you are going to send your out for overhaul then I think it would st ill be a good buy to get the pmags and ebay your old mags.- The pmags sho uld increase your mpg noticably and you-might save money on spark plugs i n the long run depending on how often you change the aircraft style plugs. - =0A-=0AScott=0A=0A- =0A=0A________________________________=0A From: Galin Hernandez <galinhdz@gmail.com>=0ATo: "kis-list@matronics.com" <kis-l ist@matronics.com> =0ASent: Thursday, September 19, 2013 1:22 PM=0ASubject: KIS-List: "P" Mags for O360 A4M=0A =0A=0A=0AHas-anybody here converted their engine from the old Magnetos to the "P" Mag with the built in generat or?
