A TR-1 ditched in the Gulf about 10 miles off of the coast of FL about 12 years
ago. The pilot clung to the overturned aircraft for hours before he was rescued.
The TR-1 stayed afloat until it was salvaged.

We flew from Florida to Provo, to the Dom Rep then across to PR. This way we minimized
the amount of time over "Blue water". We recommend wearing a good life
preserver, not one of the cheap airline ones, from the time you get in to the
airplane until you land. Also having a PLB, a Marine VHF radio and a good strobe
light all strapped to the life preserver is also recommended. Finally, a small
bag with water dye marker, signaling mirror, rope, knife and a bottle of
drinking water finishes the survival gear.
I personally don't carry a life raft since it will probably go down with the airplane
if we have to ditch. There is a saying within survival experts: If it is
strapped to your body it is survival gear. Everything else is camping gear.

Hopefully our uber cruiser will be ready for the 2015 trip! What route did you
take? We took a friends old cessna 310 down to st thomas last december. Lots
of blue water between turks and caicos and st thomas. Did you hug the coast
of the dominican republic or just go blue water? What kind of safety equipment
did you bring?
Thanks,Scott

For the past 4 years a friend of mine and I have been coordinating a trip with
our airplanes from South Florida to Puerto Rico and the Caribbean during the cold
days of December. This is the type of adventure the KIS airplanes are tailor
made to do. As always we had a blast and are already thinking about a December
2014 trip.
