    From: Alfred Rosa <fredorosa@gmail.com>
I initially installed the struts only at the forward location of the doors b ut didn't like the visual intrusion. Now they are only at the rear position . There was some twisting and misalignment when closing the doors so I orde red longer strut anchors for the top location. This neutralized the thrust f orce alignment so the doors can close properly. The doors on both the 2 a nd 4 place aircraft are rather large and from a pure strength standpoint rat her flimsy out of necessity to reduce weight. Having a single strut on only one side of the door, especially one with increased pressure would be putti ng a constant twisting strain on the door structure each time it is closed. Additionally, when open a gust of wind would put the same or even worse twi sting strain on the door. This is why my plan has always been to include tw o gas struts on each door. They are not expensive and the added weight is m inor. > > Waiting for life to get out of the way, > > Bob Reed > > From: Mike Pienaar <mjpienaar@shaw.ca> > To: kis-list@matronics.com > Sent: Wednesday, May 21, 2014 8:49 AM > Subject: Re: KIS-List: Gas Struts TR-4 > > Thanks Tim, I'n not sure if I want to play with pressures in that range!!! !!! I got a steel pipe, 1 1/2" ID I think, long enough to hold the strut, capped both ends, you have to seal the threads, d rill and tap one cap for a Schrader valve. insert the struts and fill the tu be with Nitrogen. I was able to fit four of my struts in my tube. The origin al rating was 25 lbs. and with the refill they came out at 40 lbs and work m uch better and last for years. > > Tim N52TY > > From: owner-kis-list-server@matronics.com [mailto:owner-kis-list-server@ma tronics.com] On Behalf Of Mike Pienaar > Sent: Thursday, May 15, 2014 9:04 PM > To: KISBUILDERS > Subject: KIS-List: Gas Struts TR-4 > > Hi All, > > Does any body have the specs or the name of the manufacturer for the gas s truts that came with the TR-4 to hold the doors open, I wiped my struts with acetone and that took off all the markings > > I installed my brackets to conform with the origal struts but they are too weak and I cannot find replacement struts have the same overall length. > > Sometime ago there was a mention of a method to recharge the struts and if somebody could point me in that direction I would appreciate it. > > Thanks > > Mike > > > ://www.matronics..com/Navigator?KIS-List > ics.com > ..matronics.com/contribution > > > > > This email is free from viruses and malware because avast!
