As far as I remember I found no use of it apart from filling it with water
and using it to make the fuselage level while building.
What was it actually meant for? Pitot&Static from probe to instruments? I
made those mainly with alu tubing.

You don't wrap an airplane and expect it to last forever, especially for
the significantly lower cost. I think it is a good thing. When it is time
to replace the wrap, if you want to change your original scheme, you can at
a significantly lower cost . If you like the paint scheme, you have the
option of wrapping it again or going ahead and painting it.
You don't have that option with a paint job without spending a lot
more $$$$.
