We got the landing gear off today. First look into the fiberglass revealed the damage isn't as bad as I initially thought. I will post photos of the area as soon as I get home.

Photos of the top and bottom of the landing gear area. I noticed the holes in the fuselage are 7/16" but the bolts I removed are AN6 which are 3/8". This probably contributed to the large area washers folding inwards. There was nothing underneath the center part of the washer that it could transfer any load to. I also noticed that the top 2 plies had delaminated about 1/2" from the hole but the rest looked to still be solid. The landing gear looks to be in good shape. But since it is already off, I am going to remove the paint and if I see anything even remotely suspicious I will do a dye penetrant inspection. I will post the results as soon as I have them. I will have to send several e-mails since MATRONICS won't let me attach too many files to each message.

Hi Galin, To me it looks like there are cracks and other damage going about 2 inches from the holes. Keep in mind that any crack is a stress riser so it will need to be fully repaired (removing old material) to beyond any crack or other damage. For a critical structural repair you want to scarf it in about 10 to 1. So with 0.4" thick (if this is how thick it was) you need to scarf it in about 2 inches minimum on each side beyond the removed damage. So about 8" in diameter. This is not trivial but it is also not a huge deal. There are of course other options but the above is not all that bad.
