Subject: | IO-240 BxB Engine Mount Bushings |

Hello Bill, Great suggestion =93 many thanks. I did not find any
suitable bushings at M C, but did find and order several different
lengths of hose that I may be able to cut and turn into suitable 638225
replacements.

Check McMaster Carr for different bushings. They may have something of
use.

Hello Fellow Owners and Builders of KIS TR-1 Airplanes Powered by the
IO-240 BxB Engine, I am going through another evolution of replacing the
elastomeric bushings in this engine mount because of engine sag.
I am disgusted by the cost, and general non availability of the 638225
elastomeric bushing. This is the center tubular bushing: 1/2 inch inner
diameter, 1 inch outer diameter.**
I am also unhappy with the fact that the elastomeric material in this
bushing is too soft and allows almost immediate engine sag. I am
considering trying to locate some rubber hose with a 1/2 inch inner
diameter and 1 inch outer diameter and cutting it into short lengths and
using that instead of the CM part #638225.
Your comments?
OC
**PS: Another particularly aggravating factor is the difficulty in
installing new elastomeric bushings.

Hello Jesse, Thank you for the suggestion.
Probably would not work because the 638225 bushings are not tapered
their entire length, but just tapered for a portion on each end. The
center section is a cylinder.
Also after the bushing has been in use for a while it can usually be
stuck to the interior of the crankcase mounting boss and will be
partially disintegrated during removal. I use Dow DC-4 during
installation to help solve that problem, but it is not always effective.

OC,
As you well know I;m not a guru for fixes but if the bushings are
tapered, why couldn't you loosen one of them at a time, slide it back,
cut a inter tube to make one wrap, coat it with silicone grease and pull
it back into position. This would give more area for the softer bushing
to ride on and bring the mount back up to correct position.
Just want to share a thought,
Jesse

Hello Mark, You wrote:

Right you are, and that is a good price for those who can use the 22387
bushing.
2) "If the O-200 adapters do not work could something similar be made for
the IO-240 BXB?"
Maybe, but the real issue is not the configuration, cost (approximately
$17.50), and availability of the CM part number 530740 (or its Lord J3608-1
substitute) end bushing, but the cost (approximately $70) , Durometer
hardness (too soft), and non availability of the CM part number 638225
center tubular bushing.
3) " If you can draw them up I can get a quote for making them but your best
bet may be to use the factory ones if you can get them."
Yes, I intend to continue using the CM part number 530740 (or its Lord
J3608-1 substitute) end bushing and keep searching for a better solution for
the CM part number 638225 center tubular bushing.

The conical rubber bushings on ebay are actually $1.25 each. But with
shipping the total is $22.22 for 8.
