Subject: | Crack by landing gear? |

Hello Steve McIntosh, On Monday, June 6, 2016 5:20 PM you wrote: "A crack
has developed in front of the landing gear all the way across the fuselage.
It looks like filler or bonds." and "Can you help??"
On Jun 6, 2016, at 9:50 PM OC wrote: "Ahhhh, the ugly underbelly of the KIS

Attached are three pictures of the underbelly of my KIS TR-1. Below are some
comments:
A) Picture 001: Looking aft. At the far left and right edges of the picture
are the top end of the Van's RV fairings that cover my main landing gear
legs. Also note the water drain holes in the bottom of the fuselage. Please
ignore the greasy dirt.
B) Picture 004: Looking towards the right wing. You can see that a bit of
the black rubber pad that I installed between the top of the main landing
gear cross piece and the bottom of the groove in the fuselage has managed to
work its way forward. The aft edges of the Van's RV gear leg fairings are
held together by one machine screw at the top end then white tape that the
glider people use to tape their aircraft together in order to go flying the
rest of the way down.
C) Picture 006: Looking towards the left wing. Note the addition of vinyl
tubing over the plastic brake line to protect the brake line from chafing.
There must be some way to cover up that whole ugly scene with a fiberglass
shield, but I have pretty much given up attempting to do so. Certainly
stuffing Bondo into the space between the edges of the main landing gear
cross piece and the fuselage bottom is not the way to go.
Any questions?
OC

Hi OC,
I covered my gear with a piece of .025" or .032" aluminum also the wing to
fuselage.
