We started by injected resin into the separation as recommended then used 6plies of 9oz fiberglass for the repair after the injected resin hardened a bit. We made the patch 12" x 6" so it covered the separation (about 5" long) by a wide margin. We also made each set (total of 3 sets, 2 plies each) slightly smaller than the previous so all 6 plies don't end at the same spot to better spread the loads. Since I did all the prep work before Chris arrived, it took just over 6hours to do the repairs with Chris doing most, ok all, of the layups under the instrument panel up by the firewall. It actually came out looking real good. I have attached a photo of the right side repair with some of my notations on it. The photo isn't the best but gives an idea of how it came out. I just hope it will display. I hope to get the airplane back in the air next week after I do an oil change and some other minor maintenance. THANKS to everyone who chimed in with recommended courses of action to my curses. ________________________________ Message 2 _____________________________________ Time: 05:30:05 PM PST US From: Galin Hernandez Subject: KIS-List: Fuselage separation repair completed Well we (son-in-law Chris & I) did the repair this weekend.
