As you can see it is mounted onto the fuselage ceiling just aft of the windshield canopy / roll over support bow. This is a better location than having the compass near any avionics and gyro instruments that can generate a lot of magnetic influence trash. The mounting method was to epoxy a small flat piece of fiberglass to the ceiling with two small brass or aluminum (non magnetic) machine screws, compatibly located, and projecting down into the compass mount. The screw heads were fixed so that they would not rotate and the compass mount was then held in position by two non magnetic cap or acorn nuts. Any questions? OC PS: Note the compass correction card fastened to the canopy bow. ======================================== From: pastormac@comcast.net Sent: Wednesday, November 02, 2016 4:44 PM Subject: KIS-List: Vertical card compass mount? Hi Guys, I'm wanting to purchase a Vertical Card Compass to mount in my KIS TR-1. Any suggestions on the best place to mount it?? I thought center and top of the instrument, but considering it fiberglass wasn't to sure of the ability to hold it. Thanks!! FWIW I had a vertical card compass mounted in the same location OC has his. I have since replaced it with an S.I.R.S. compass as you can see in the photo. I am very impressed with your cockpit. Some questions if I may: 1) Why did you switch from the vertical card compass to the S.I.R.S.? 2) The red things are locks on the door supports? 3) You have a portable GPS and an iPad on RAM mounts in the cockpit? 4) What is the instrument immediately above the Trio autopilot control head and what provides the inputs to that instrument? 5) What is the little square device just below the airflow output on the far right of the panel? 6) What is the red guarded switch by the pilots right knee? 7) How did you come by the carbon fiber flap sector cover? Are there any more available? Many thanks for your help. OC =============== From: Galin Hernandez Sent: Monday, November 14, 2016 6:22 PM Subject: Re: KIS-List: Vertical card compass mount?
