My airplane was already built so the shape was already there. I cut the plexiglas to the correct width but slightly longer than needed. I drilled the top holes then screwed the plexiglas in place. As I applied heat I pressed down on the plexiglas with the long piece of wood until it couldn't go any lower. Don't over heat it or the Plexiglas will sag. I did one small area at a time until it was completely formed around the wing. Once the lens was complete, I cut the excess length off and drilled the bottom holes. Believe me, it is easier said than done. I took me three tries to get the technique down pat but plexiglas is cheap. Be ready to mess up the first few tries but you will really like how it comes out. Another technique that keeps the heat away from the leading edge of the week during formation is: 1. Cover the leading edge with packing tape or saran wrap 2. Build a box around the leading edge with cardboard to retain the next step 3. Fill the box with pour-foam, or use Great Stuff from the hardware store 4. Let it cure, then remove from the leading edge. This makes a female mold 5. Make sure you use tape or mold release on the inside of the mold, and fill it with plaster of paris, let cure 6. Heat the acrylic in an oven, and drape it over the mold. Bob Reed=99s web site has a short piece I wrote on installing the lenses after they are formed.
