1/21/2018 Hello Bruce, Please forgive my slow response. Like granpaw used to say: =9CIt is hell to be old and sick and poor all at the same time.=9D And that is me, struggling to get through the last bit of pancreatic cancer surgery and chemo fusion treatment. You wrote: =9CI am currently where you were then on my Series 5 Kitfox and wonder if you ever found a viable solution with your hose experiments from Mcmaster carr?=9D The answer is yes, I am very satisfied with the hose modifications that I came up with from McMaster Carr. What I propose to do is search back through the KIS TR-1 compost heap on my computer and forward to you what I think might be helpful. You can stop me at any time and ask any questions at any time. Might even include a picture or two. I=99ll include the KIS Matronics group in case someone else is facing the same problem. For those not familiar with the problem please see the attached IMG_0259(2).jpg. This what the Continental Motors provided bushings will sag into eventually. 1/21/2018 Hello Again Bruce Lina, As promised I have searched though the past correspondence on this subject and have the following extracted information for you: You could make and install your own substitute 638225 bushings as I have done described here: I decided that the hose 86805K53 from McMaster-Carr was the most suitable of the four different hose samples that I had. http://www.mcmaster.com/#catalog/121/3569/=yyg3wt >From the two six inch long pieces that I had received I made a total of six substitute 6838225 bushings. I cut the hose into lengths about 1 3/4 inches long using my chop saw (nice square ends). Then I reamed out the center holes of the six pieces of hose in stages to an inside diameter of 1/2 inch using my drill press to permit entry of the metal spacer part number 653695. Then I mounted the bushing on a 1/2 inch diameter bolt about six inches long so that I could hold the bushing and rotate it against my disc sander to create a taper on each end. I finished off each tapered end by chucking the bolt in the drill press and holding a sanding block against the tapered end while the bolt was rotating. See the attached picture of the results. Mine on the left, Continental=99s on the right.** My home made version has a Durometer of 75A which is harder than the 30-40 rating of the CM provided bushing. I have flown my plane with four of my substitute bushings installed and if there is any increased vibration because of the greater hardness of the substitute bushings it is undetectable. My total cost for the two six inch pieces of 86805K53 tube, which yielded a total of six bushings, was $13.44 USD plus shipping. Please let me know how you decide to solve your engine mounting problem an if you have any further questions. Thanks. OC **PS: The other attached picture is of the Baker Aircraft Factory that I hired a contractor to build attached to my house. Sadly it appears that my KIS TR-1 will be the only aircraft that will be built in that factory as age has crept up on me. ======== From: BRUCE LINA Sent: Saturday, January 20, 2018 8:26 PM Subject: Continental IO- 240 engine mount bushings Saw your post from 2015 on the Matronics forum concerning your search for a cheaper solution to the TCM 638225 ridiculously expensive center bushings. Have you tried rotating them at every annual (before they sag too much)? -------------------------------------------- On Sun, 1/21/18, OC <bakerocb@cox.net> wrote: Subject: KIS-List: Re: Continental IO- 240 engine mount bushings To: "BRUCE LINA" <airlina@verizon.net>, "KIS-LIST MATRONICS" <kis-list@matronics.com> Date: Sunday, January 21, 2018, 4:15 PM 1/21/2018 Hello Bruce, Please forgive my slow response.
