Auto fuel contains Ethanol, which is basically a solvent. If the fuel system (to include the fuel tanks) are not built to withstand the Ethanol, it will slowly dissolve the fuel system causing a major failure. Our KIS4's use the "wet wing" method of fuel tanks so if Auto gas with Ethanol has been used there may be an issue hence the borescope inspection suggestion. FWIW: Mark K. was one of the original engineers that worked on the KIS design and is an encyclopedia of knowledge about the KIS line of airplanes. We are so lucky to have him actively participate on this forum On Mon, Jan 13, 2020 at 11:05 PM Robert Reed <robertr237@att.net> wrote: > > The alcohol in auto fuel can compromise the fuel tanks and some parts of > the fuel system of aircraft. Ethanol and to a lesser extent MBTE will destroy the epoxy resin. Keep in mind that one side of the fuel tank is the main wing spar and it is built w ith epoxy resin. There was at least one KIS TR-1 that had the main spar hig hly compromised by auto fuel use. Mark K.
