But sometimes during high workload situ ations I forget to turn it off which prevents the engine from generating fu ll power and I don't want to be looking down to check the status. So I deci ded to design something to indicate when the carb heat is on. Now in keepin g with the KIS principle it had to be simple, reliable, cheap to build and easy to install. This is what I came up with. I used a military grade roller lever switch to send a signal to my DYNON sy stem when the carb heat knob was moved. This would then indicate right on m y EFIS if carb heat was on or off. It would be simple to fabricate, instal l and configure. First I made a mounting bracket out of a bent a piece of spare stainless st eel. I tapped the bracket so I could use #6 screws to hold the roller lever switch to the bracket. To limit vibrations felt by the switch I bonded a p iece of spare rubber to the bracket with high heat silicone sealant. The ca rb heat box already had a convenient mounting location where I could use a #8 screw to mount the new assembly near the carb heat cable. By adjusting t he assembly a little, the carb heat cable actuator would move the roller le ver on the switch. I connected one side of the switch to ground and the oth er to an available contact pin on the DYNON EMS DB-37 module. After some quick configuration, I now have a light blue indication on my EF IS when the carb heat is on. Simple, effective and a I actually enjoyed the project.
