The Baja Design S2Pro lights come with different lig ht patterns but I couldn't find anybody that could tell me which was best f or an aviation application. I decided to go with the SPOT light pattern whi ch provides the best long range pattern thinking that for night landing it would be the best option. After a year of flying with them I realized they had an incredibly long range, I could see the runway markings from over 500 ft but once on the ground the visibility while taxiing wasn't that good. Th ere was an area in front of the airplane that was dark and ground markings were very hard to see, especially when having to turn. Fast forward to last month when I decided to change from the SPOT pattern t o the COMBO pattern. All it took was to change the lens which cost just ove r $15.00 per light. I just did some night flying after I made the change an d found the COMBO pattern is overall a much better pattern. I can easily se e the runway markings from 400ft but the ground visibility was significantl y improved. The previous dark area in front of the airplane is well lit and I can see much better while taxiing. It is kind of hard explaining this so I updated my webpage with pictures so you can see what I am talking about. Look in MAINTENANCE > UPGRADES > LAND ING / RECOGNITION LIGHTS. I hope this helps anybody debating on which light pattern to use in their a irplane. Overall these S2 Pro lights are superb and I highly recommend them =2E -- This email has been checked for viruses by Avast antivirus software. https://www.avast.com/antivirus ________________________________ Message 2 _____________________________________ Time: 10:33:23 AM PST US From: Robert Reed Subject: Re: KIS-List: LED Landing Light If I ever get my plane with the hours flown off so I can move it to my new h ome and hangar I might give them a try. A two and half hour drive to get to the current hangar is a real issue for some reason. As a side note, I went up this week and took my new lithium battery charger expecting the batteries to be low after 10 months since last flight. Turned on the Dynon and checked battery level and found them to be 12.7 volts. Tha t would have been more than enough for cranking. Topped off to 13.2 in about thirty minutes. Something not many high quality LED lights do.
