I can't imagine why SS doesn't go the electronic way, so simple and effective,
no moving parts, reliable and I'm sure much cheaper.

Could anybody on the list get me some dimensions of the smooth cowl that Skyfox
furnishes. I need the total depth from airframe mounting to front of cowling
and the width in the area of the cylinders. Skystar didn't have one in stock
to measure. Also what is the Cost of the Cowling. A pic would also help

Hi John,
This is just how the "good thing" should look alike, IMO.
Simple, failsafe and reliable, what more can you ask for??

Hi Michel,
Guess you're back, or at least- not far away??
There should be a little for you to read right now(?), so I'm just
sitting back and waiting for some response.. :)
As you'll see the list is moved to another site, but still "maintained"
by our friends over there.. ):
Today, the Sun started the descend below the horizon up here, so from
now we'll have "the theoretical night, well quite real too" in my place

PS. Note the new address.

Interesting point, Torgeir! I never thought of that but it makes sense and as
an instinctive reaction, I've never changed speed or direction under a
side-slip, feeling that the plane was not under those conditions "flying" but
rather in a delicate manoeuvre that was not to be disturbed.
BTW, I am back from a very pleasant European trip (in airliners, not Kitfox! :-)
You guys managed to write 200 emails while I was away. Much to read! :-)
Cheers,
Michel

I had considered doing something electronic myself.. but chose not to. SS
has the manual trim for the 7 and therefore the 6 indicator is no longer
utilized.

Torgeir & John Anderson
Thanks for the pictures. I wish I would have seen them when I was
building. I fixed my problem today by doing what Peter Graichen
suggested. I went to the local Honda motorcycle shop and purchased 16
feet of Bowden type cable to replace the original Nylaflow nylon tubing
provided by SkyStar. I kept the existing ribbon spring trim indicator.
It works fine now and should last for the life of the airplane.
To all those who are building Series 5 and 6 Kitfoxes I strongly
recommend you do not use the trim system indicator tubing provided by
SkyStar. Based on my experience and that of several others on the list,
it is a weak point in the design and will fail after extended use. It
is a big pain to replace after the fuselage is covered and painted.
Further it will place excessive loads on the trim jack screw and its
electrical motor as internal friction builds up in the Nylaflow tubing,
especially where the tubing bends.
Thanks to everyone who commented on this concern, for a while I though I
was alone with this problem. BTW, Elbie of AOA fame, is looking into
using the same type of tubing for this application that he employs in
his AOA design. It is much lighter in weight and has very little
friction. Looks like there are several good solutions out there.

Cheaper?
I have an operating electronic trim position indicator system, in final
debugging at present. It isn't cheap to design anything electronic, especially
if
adaptable for many aircraft. There isn't enough demand in the KitFox group to
justify a system that just works on the KitFox. The investment is nearly
equal to 50% of engine costs, and we are still debugging. BUT we will have an
extremely light weight system adaptable to any aircraft that shows trim in 10%
increments
If anyone interested e-mail me at EMAproducts@aol.com will give information.
Mention you are on the Kitfox list ~ We also have the tubing available John
King mentioned in his note. I am waiting for the distributor to verify with the
mfg. of the tubing the % of expansion and contraction with large temperature
variations, I have asked them to check from a minimum of -20F to + 115F Will
have info early next week hopefully.
