John,
You may want to experiment with adhesive where you overlap the cover.
The material is hard to glue to each other. You might try sewing the material
together so it would be one piece. I might have used Poly Tack on the
overlapping seams. Don't remember.

All 912 up and including 4,152.666 can be extended to 1200 hours and 15
years as long as SI-26-1994 is complied with. That is a valve spring
tension test. Also the carb float needles need to be the correct needle or
be replaced. These checks are required at 600 hours. If done and corrected
then the engine is good for 1200 hours.

Aha.. I knew there was something behind.... :) ...
OK., -must be this the place?

Yes the right slip is the "better", but- remember what a rapid power off
"action" can do in a "sharp" right slip.
Both sides, L/H or R/H slips have it's "own" precautions when using
"middle" power under a slip.
The thing is, just kick the craft out of slip "mode" before an abr.
power change or, any abr. go around action.
In the above "mode", the engine play an important factor in the balance,
so smooth engine change is recommended.
Hey-, isn't our two stroke's (Rotax) running CCW - viewed from cockpit..

Subject: | "New" kind of instruments. |
--> Kitfox-List message posted by: Torgeir Mortensen <torgemor@online.no>
Hi Folks,
Just like to shear some info about the "new" kind of instruments. They
are based on the LCD and PIC processors I'll guess, the latest addition
is a "gyro horizon" (has an included digital compass!). Don't know about
the price for this latest one, but this is the thing I've been waiting
for a long time. "All" those instrument's "can" be run on a single 9
Volt DC, typical consumption is around 35 mA, 70 mA with back-light on.
Backup battery for all the instrument here is very low weight, -and will
last very long..
Well, can't say that I like the digital altimeter and airspeed
presentation, maybe just old habits?
However, I'll think those instruments is good candidates for our kind of
aircraft.
BTW. I got one on my table to be installed in my Fox, it's the fuel flow
meter.
They are not expensive, they are low weight- most of them 90 gram....
Hey, shortly, my Fox is going for a diet.
PS: There is also a directional indicator to come, price not ready yet.
The name of this instruments is: Stratomaster Smart singles.
If you don't like this kind of instruments, then consider them as
backup.
OK., here is the direct link:

I just spent a pleasant couple of hours with one of the senior members of the list
- Leo Rice. He looks good, but shows the strain from his chemotherapy and
of course from the recurrence of his colon cancer. His spirits are good, but
from what he said, I suspect he is in significant pain from time to time. He
is at home under hospice care and is pretty much confined to bed with an occasional
moment or two in a wheel chair.
He has sold his Series 5 and his hangar, so is now out of the active part of aviation,
this mostly due to his reluctance to endure once again the medical fiasco
he went through after the first bout with his cancer. However his love for
anything aviation is still strong.
He has removed himself from the list, at least for a time as he has difficulty
sitting at his computer, but may return using a laptop that his daughter - de-bugged
while I was there. With out a doubt, Leo was one of the true gentlemen
of the list. He built a truly fine airplane with a lot of thought and attention
to detail and was always generous with his help and advice to all of us.
I think one of his better innovations was his W / B solution to the (heavy) engine
problem - IO-235. He permanently mounted a small metal toolbox at the rear
of his baggage sack and filled it with enough bagged lead shot to get the airplane
into the CG range. When He and Lola traveled, out came the bags of shot
and in went the luggage maintaining the CG without having the ballast cutting
into his payload. This was all legalized by proper plackarding and documentation.
For those that know him from personal contact or through the list, let's keep him
in our thoughts and prayers as he battles through this difficult time.

I had to replace the firewall portion of the engine mount, along with that I
replace the rubber isolators. You are going to have to support the engine, I
used an Engine hosit. Worked for me since the engine was removed.

Just for kicks I looked at ironing board covers at WalMart today... All had
polyeurathane in them. I don't think you want that in airplanes... Doesn't
the polyeurathane give off poisonous formaldahide gas or is than another
foam??? Bob U.

SB-912-041UL page 4 seems to indicate the time between overhauls for the 912
and 914 engines by serial number. It refers to SI-26-1994.

I spoke to him re the purchase of his plane and I was a bit too slow...
While I have never met him, I found him to a true gentleman, soft spoken and
very kind.
I believe I missed out on a great plane!

Hey Everyone,
I need a new set of spark plugs. Has anyone had a local auto store cross
match the Rotax plug numbers and order a set? Do they work OK? I'm not doing
it so much to save money but for convenience. Thanks, Jeff Puls

Hi Lowell,
Thanks for the update on Leo.
You are correct that he is the true gentleman of this list. He has been a
member of the list since it started, and even was a subscriber to my "Kitfox
Builder" newsletter, so we go way back. I have never met him, but have
corresponded by email, letter, and phone, he has always been kind and giving
in his efforts to make this list a good source of info.
Thank you Leo, we are all thinking of you.
