--> Kitfox-List message posted by: "John E. King " <kingjohn@erols.com> Jeff, I order my plugs from the local Carquest automotive store. Provide them with your NGK plug type and they can order them if not in stock (probably won't be). I have a 912S (NGK Type DCPR8E) that uses different plugs than your 912UL. Just make sure they know that the NGK plugs you want have the threaded shaft and not the rounded clip type. In the latest ones I just ordered the rounded clip was removable, exposing the threaded shaft. -- John King Warrenton, VA Don Pearsall wrote: >--> Kitfox-List message posted by: "Don Pearsall" <donpearsall@comcast.net> > >Sent to old address by mistake. >Don > >-----Original Message----- >From: "Jeffrey Puls" <pulsair@mindspring.com> >To: "Kitfox List" <Kitfox@sportflight.com> >Subject: 912UL Spark Plugs >Date: Sun, 23 Nov 2003 21:37:21 -0500 > >Hey Everyone, >I need a new set of spark plugs. --> Kitfox-List message posted by: kurt schrader <smokey_bear_40220@yahoo.com> Thanks Steve, Whew, I am really busy now. Hard to get a moment to get on this list at all and I need to give some replies. My engine does not have the remote tank. It uses the automotive pan and only addes the remote filter, cooler and an air/oil seperator. The seperator is feed off the heads and drains back into the pan. The oil burps out the top. I think my friend/test pilot, that has a 4 just like yours, may be right about mine. I am using 20w50 oil due to the turbo heat. It barely maintains idle pressure when hot, so I need the thick oil. But when cold the thick oil may not drain back to the pan fast enough and gets burped out when I power up. Other possibilities are that the rings are not yet seated and I get blowby, or that I will have to run a quart low all the time. Right now is the busy season for us UPS guys. Then in January I have my annual training to study for, Christmas shopping to do, work, and just life. Don't think I'll be able to get to the plane again until the end of January, so solution testing will have to wait. But you are right, I am not the only one with this problem, so I'll test each theory out and see what works. Thanks again, Kurt S. --- Steve Zakreski <szakreski@shaw.ca> wrote: > --> Kitfox-List message posted by: Steve Zakreski > <szakreski@shaw.ca> > > Kurt > > Congratulations! > > I have a non-turbo'd NSI-EA81. John & Debra McBean "The Sky is not the Limit... It's a Playground" -----Original Message----- From: owner-kitfox-list-server@matronics.com [mailto:owner-kitfox-list-server@matronics.com]On Behalf Of Lowell Fitt Subject: Kitfox-List: Leo Rice --> Kitfox-List message posted by: "Lowell Fitt" <lcfitt@inreach.com> I just spent a pleasant couple of hours with one of the senior members of the list - Leo Rice. He looks good, but shows the strain from his chemotherapy and of course from the recurrence of his colon cancer. His spirits are good, but from what he said, I suspect he is in significant pain from time to time. He is at home under hospice care and is pretty much confined to bed with an occasional moment or two in a wheel chair. He has sold his Series 5 and his hangar, so is now out of the active part of aviation, this mostly due to his reluctance to endure once again the medical fiasco he went through after the first bout with his cancer. However his love for anything aviation is still strong. He has removed himself from the list, at least for a time as he has difficulty sitting at his computer, but may return using a laptop that his daughter - de-bugged while I was there. With out a doubt, Leo was one of the true gentlemen of the list. He built a truly fine airplane with a lot of thought and attention to detail and was always generous with his help and advice to all of us. I think one of his better innovations was his W / B solution to the (heavy) engine problem - IO-235. He permanently mounted a small metal toolbox at the rear of his baggage sack and filled it with enough bagged lead shot to get the airplane into the CG range. When He and Lola traveled, out came the bags of shot and in went the luggage maintaining the CG without having the ballast cutting into his payload. This was all legalized by proper plackarding and documentation. For those that know him from personal contact or through the list, let's keep him in our thoughts and prayers as he battles through this difficult time. Lowell

--> Kitfox-List message posted by: RiteAngle3@aol.com Gentlemen, As US pilots and homebuilders I find it pretty sad when a builder in Norway knows more about the US FAR's than do builders here in the states! Remember it is you who is responsible! I'm not pointing any fingers, there are no dumb questions, however in the end when the FAA ask ~ it is your responsibility to know the regulations, not only in flying but in building. Cover yourself, be knowledgeable. A phone call to the local FSDO or a visit to the FAA website will have the answer immediately. Elbie old CFI

    Subject: RE: Bungee Gear
--> Kitfox-List message posted by: RiteAngle3@aol.com Bungee Cord info Advisory Circular Info from Advisory Circular 43.13-1B (AC 43.13 -1B) there is a chart that gives the date mfg., which is denoted by colored threads in the bungee. (If they are certified bungees) This code is listed in Chapter 9, Table 9-1. This chapter also states: "A rubber shock (bungee) cord for shock absorption must be inspected for age, fraying of braided sheath, narrowing (necking) of the cord, and wear at points of contact with the structure and stretch. If the age of the shock cord is near 5 years or more, it is advisable to replace it with a new cord. A cord that shows other defects should be replaced, regardless of age." Due to this the color codes are repeated every 5 years. I'll be glad to e-mail this code to anybody if they let me know off list. takes a bit of typing :-) I have heard of "new" bungee cords ordered and being within a few months of the 5 year life, so if a certified bungee, check the "date" to insure you are getting your money's worth! I don't know where their stores are located around the country, but I think their warehouse is in Kansas City or St. Louis, so should be in the Midwest.
