I had searched the archives for messages about VG's using the Vg's, and also the
whole word with no results. Can anyone point me to the link please?
Thanks,

Subject: Re: 3 Plane Info request
The optimum density of VG's was determined by wind tunnel testing at U of Ohio,
not us. While some aircraft show dramatic improvements with fewer VG's, the
majority appear to get the best results when the density of VG's is at one per
inch of span.
Different airfoils require some adjustment chord wise but most seem to produce
a satisfying result when the VG's are placed forward of peak camber, How far forward
varies. We have precise positioning information for the Long, Vari, Velocity
and RANS S-7. Others have used CCI vortex generators with positive results
on the Kitfox and Avid Flyer. We do not know exactly where they placed them
but it appears likely that the VG "Fence" is within the envelope used by others.
One thing was apparent by the Kitfox owners who did report back: Rudder and
elevator authority is vastly improved because the Kitfox is alleged to fly slower
using the VG's, without lowering the flaperons. Because the air over the
tail is no longer as disturbed, it has more control than before.
Please understand Barry, that these are second hand reports made by others and
unconfirmed. There are unsolicited comments by end-users at our web site, one
of them for a Rebel.
You can find CCI's web page by logging on at http://www.computer-certainty.com

Further evidence of Juno's downward trend as an E-mail provider. We do rigorous

could not repair the file so it quarantined the Juno file which contained the

I have Vertex Generators on my model 4 and they work great, lowering the
stall speed about 5 miles per hour. Also inproves slow speed maneuvering.
Kinda pricey, but you'll also see them on most airlines jets.

Larry,
There were several threads on Vortex Generators that can be found in the
Yahoo archives. I found over 20 messages using the keyword "Vortex." Just go
to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/kitfoxlist and do the search. Be sure to
seach ALL the messages, not just the first group that Yahoo queries.

Would anyone happen to have an IVO 3-blade that they would consider selling?
If not an IVO, I would consider any other that offers good performance on the
KF. The main reason I first mention IVO is because I have an IVO in-flight adjustable
kit with a 'constant speed' option that I figure I might as well put
to use.

while the world watched Kitty Hawk this morning, over 1000 people and 30 plus planes
made their way to Brigham City UT (BMC) to watch the flight of the Utah
State University Wright Flyer. Modeled after the 1905 Flyer, it has flown over
200 times and made several flights today, taking off under its own power. It
has flown at several locations this summer including several flights at Wright
Patterson, some with astronauts, John Glenn and Jake Garn in the right seat.
It is reported to be the first plane to take off and land at Huffman Prairie
in over 60 years.
It was thrilling to part of this little re-enactment on the celebration of a great
day in history..

I watched a documentary on the History channel the
other day about Wright Flyer reproductions. The Utah
State plane was by far the most capable of the lot.
Much of the plane was made of modern materials, so it
showed what the Wright's aerodynamics and design
details could do if it were built today.

I hope everyone had a great 100th anniversary!
I had the privilege of flying the U-2 on a test mission last night and
landing at 0200 on this anniversary day. After a few hours of needed
sleep, I took my daughter Caitlin (almost 5) up for a short flight to
celebrate the occasion and then took my son Brandon (20 months) up on his
very first flight. All three of us had a great time and the Kitfox
performed flawlessly. Im thrilled that my son will always be able to say
his first flight was on the 100th anniversary of the Wright brothers first
flight. What a great day.

My header tank leaks at the bottom were the brass screws into the tank. Not sure

Any ideas on fixing this leak. Maybe some sort of pipe dope?
The tank is made from some sort of soft material.

Wow, Brian,
Flying a U-2 and a Kitfox on the same day! That's what most of us dream of
doing. I bet your son (and you) will be telling the story of the 100th
anniversary for a long time to come.
I celebrated by watching TV of the Wright Flyer flop in the mud. My day was
not quite as exciting as yours.
Congratulations!

Brian,
Did you pick up your Series V from Bert Garrison? He was out at Beale in
U-2s working on a Series V about 3 yrs ago. He separated from the AF and I
lost track of him. Last time I saw was in 2000 or so at AirVenture. He
flew in in a black T-38.
Take Care,
Milt

Jack,
All of the early Model IV-1200 Kitfoxes had header tanks made of a
material that shrinks over time to the point that the material separated
from the brass fittings causing slow leaks. Furthermore, the boss area
surrounding the fittings as seen from the inside of the tank were too
small so that there was very little thread area. You might get by for a
while using some of the sealers like Tight Seal, etc., but that will
only be temporary. I replaced my original header tank with the newer
type later provided by SkyStar. The new tanks use a different material
and have much larger bosses.
