Did you replace the old one or just extended it? If the former, what do you do in summer? did you make a hole in the "grease cup?" Cheers, Michel

Subject: Coolant for liquid cooled engines
--> Kitfox-List message posted by: Paul <pwilson@climber.org> One of the things that is common for high specific output engines is to operate the engine with high coolant pressure which raises the boiling point to give margin against overheating. Rotax has finally done their home work and has revised their pressure cap for the 91X series engines to 18 psi. The service instruction SI-25-1997R5 makes this change. (This instruction also gives revised torque specs for fasteners and fittings). The info is applicable to both the UL series and the certified versions. A companion Service letter gives the engineering background and pressure vs boiling point data. See SL-912-009R1 or SL914-008R1. This info is applicable to any liquid cooled engine with ethylene glycol and would be a good addition to the info to the Sportflight database. If you have a Rotax engine and do not get these automatic info. notices go to http://www.rotax-owner.com and sign up for email notification. Rotax does a great job of keeping the owners abreast of details on their engines. Paul Discalimer: Those of you with Rotax engines other than the 91X series will have to go to the the Rotax web site for possible info for their specific engine.

--> Kitfox-List message posted by: "sid" <sid@i2k.com> Ron, there is a know issue with the Me,2000, and the XP versions concerning the "can not find page" error message. I don't have it in front of me, but have seen the questions/answers in several help forums and chat groups. I will be looking for the correction myself, as I get the same thing way too many times now after switching to XP Home Edition.........will keep you posted when I find it. --> Kitfox-List message posted by: "Kirk's Welding" <kirk@mninter.net> Hello: I had the same problem with asphalt taxiways and runways here in Minnesota. So I designed and built my own skis with taxi wheels installed for my Kitfox CIV (contact me for photos). This allows me to taxi to the runway via the taxiways, then take off and land next to the runway. These are the second article skis. I did some testing with the prototype last year and had to make some adjustments. I will be custom making and selling these skis. Subject: Re: Wheel Skis
--> Kitfox-List message posted by: Scott McClintock <scott_mcclintock@dot.state.ak.us> Michel, Actually, as I have no plans on using my wheel pants, I enlarged the existing hole in the cap, rethreaded the hole and run a 3/4" bolt to mount from the outboard side. I used a thinned nut as a stop. For the inboard side of the mount, I made a plate with a 3/4" bolt head of which is shaped and welded to the center. I also replaced the 4 mounting bolts which run thru the spring gear with 3/8" dia. stainless steel which are also longer to accommodate the thickness of the mounting plate. The bonus to this is that I don't need to remove the wheels at all and when "break-up" comes in June, I just need to replace with a "blank" plate which I already made of aluminum. (Same size as the mounting plate) I wanted to make these as simple and easy as I could without extending the existing axle. I must admit though, that I did enlist the assistance of a friend of mine who is a certified welder and "master" at creative engineering. --> Kitfox-List message posted by: "Gary Algate" <algate@attglobal.net> Jack the water clamp idea came from a friend of mine. I had put up with that weeping fitting and my cockpit smelling like a gas station for 12 months as I dreaded having to pull the tank out. My friend was looking at it one day and just said "why don't you just put a clamp around it?" Too simple and worked just great Sometimes I thing we spend too much time thinking about these problems and miss the simple solutions. It appears like all US Regestered Civil Airplanes require one unless you stay withing 50 miles of home or are a single place... Does anybody know if the two place "Fat Ultralites" or Ultralite trainers that are registered with EAA or USULA have to have an ELT. Blue Skies Bob Unternaehrer shilocom@c-magic.com

--> Kitfox-List message posted by: "Milt's Kitfox Stuff" <flysly@erols.com> Cy, G'day. The CCI VGs come with a template for laying them out. The only thing to figure is how far aft of the leading edge to place them. It's important to get them far enough forward that the airflow still has plenty of energy to create a good vortex, but far enough aft that the vortices don't dissipate before they reach the trailing edge. CCI's research recommend one VG per inch. Hacking around on the NASA web site over at Langley AFB I came across a rule of thumb of about 10% of chord aft of the leading edge. From their data, it seems as though the sweet spot is going to be about 8-12% of MAC. I think some guys may be industrious enough to experiment to find the ideal position, but it seems like you couldn't go too far wrong by placing them 10% aft. --> Kitfox-List message posted by: "jimshumaker" <jimshumaker@sbcglobal.net> Wow, that didn't make much sense....I should have said, I measure back from the leading edge from a vertical plane tangent to the leading edge. Wellll... actually I just hold a trisquare up against the leading edge (with the ruler set for 3 inches) and measure straight back on the level. I got 5 mph stall reduction at 3 inches and less further back. I have seen other installations that were within an inch that got 5 mph reduction also. I really like that plane. It has a different airfoil that the undercambered Kitfox III but the reduction will probably be in the 12 to 15 percent range.
