I didn't but now I do. Thanks, Scott. Looks great. Now, I wonder if it is
possible to have such a plane under the MTOW of 450 kg, which is the European
limit for microlights.
Cheers,

I think I might chime in here.
I have many thoughts about Skystar and their business operation. My
personal experience has been for the most part positive, I won't get into
details. But I wonder about the disparity of experiences. An observer
might wonder if the posts of late are regarding the same company.
Please don't take any of the following personally - anyone, because I am
not privy to anyone's interchange with Skystar, but last week ( I am a
dentist) a patient - new to the office - came in and on his New Patient
Form, under the question "Is their anything about your teeth or smile that
you are unhappy with?", he wrote, "I don't like you guys" I doubt he really
meant it and was probably trying to be funny in what to him was possibly a
stressful situation, but it didn't endear me to him, and I am afraid that it
may continue to affect my feeling for him in the future. We treated him
exactly - outwardly - as we would any other patient, but frankly, I am not
looking forward to his next visit.

Sunday. I found broken brackets on my oil cooler. 950 hours on plane. It was
possible to cut the bad tabs and reweld but I thought I could call Skystar
and order 2 new ones this was Monday morning. Guess what, they didn't have
any in stock. Dave asked me if I needed them powder coated and I said no and
got a good discount. He said that he would have them made up and shipped
ground. I said ok, called back today, Wednesday and he said that they were
finished the day that I called and were already shipped and gave me a
shipping number. I called and it looked like they would be here Saturday and
thought that was great. I went to the store a little while ago and when I
got back, guess what was sitting on my porch. New brackets for my oil
cooler. I have always had good luck with Skystar, lets

I have to agree with John.
Why not go with the more robust carb flanges and stay
with the pancake filters? The replacement flanges
are significantly tougher than the stock ones. It'd
be hard to tear them...

Ted

Hi Ted,
I did not get Johns info, but I did buy a new type flange. It is the same
dimensions all around , so how is it going to be any better than before? I
hope it is tougher, at $78.00 each. Plus, Lockwood told me they were not
getting any new ones in for a while, but the old style is the EXACT same as
the new editions, except it has a small spacer built in as to not let you
over tighten the carb onto the flange.
I also checked CPSand did not find the small filters listed for the 912?
Thanks anyway
Jay

I took the filters off the back of the carbs on my 912 because of the
extra weight throwing the carbs out of the flanges and the filters not
staying on the carbs. I used tie wraps to fasten them to the oil tank
mounting bracket and ran 2" duct hoses from the carbs to the filters. This
has worked fine and takes the stress off the carb flanges.

What did you use to connect the hose to the filter? Some kind of 2" aluminum
tube?
That sounds like a great idea.
Thanks

Here's a message Lowell Fitt sent to Ed back in 2000. These are the flanges
I purchased. Maybe they don't sell'em anymore but they were markedly better
than the originals. Heavier material and thicker in the neck. And they
WERE only $35/ea.
---------snip--------------
Ed, California Power Systems sells an after market Carb Flange. I have one
as a spare. I can't remember the cost, but I think somewhere around $35.
Their Number is 1-800 Airwolf.

terse in your posts. Avoid overly wordy and lengthy posts and
responses.
- Keep your signature brief. Please include your name, email address,
aircraft type/tail number, and geographic location. A short line
about where you are in the building process is also nice. Avoid
bulky signatures with character graphics; they consume unnecessary
space in the archive.
- DON'T post requests to the List for information when that info is
easily obtainable from other widely available sources. Consult the
web page or FAQ first.
- If you want to respond to a post, DO keep the "Subject:" line of
your response the same as that of the original post. This makes it
easy to find threads in the archive.
- When responding, NEVER quote the *entire* original post in your
response. DO use lines from the original post to help "tune in" the
reader to the topic at hand, but be selective. The impact that
quoting the entire original post has on the size of the archive
can not be overstated!
- When the poster asks you to respond to him/her personally, DO NOT
then go ahead and reply to the List. Be aware that clicking the
"reply" button on your mail package does not necessarily send your
response to the original poster. You might have to actively address
your response with the original poster's email address.
- DO NOT use the List to respond to a post unless you have something
to add that is relevant and has a broad appeal. "Way to go!", "I
agree", and "Congratulations" are all responses that are better sent
to the original poster directly, rather than to the List at large.
- When responding to others' posts, avoid the feeling that you need to
comment on every last point in their posts, unless you can truly
contribute something valuable.
- Feel free to disagree with other viewpoints, BUT keep your tone
polite and respectful. Don't make snide comments, personally attack
other listers, or take the moral high ground on an obviously
controversial issue. This will only cause a pointless debate that
will hurt feelings, waste bandwidth and resolve nothing.
