Bill, I'm not sure why you would want them. The rudder pedals are
tensioned by the springs at the firewall - at least in the model IV. the
only use I could see for them is pedal length adjustment for the long or
short legged pilot. The links included in the IV kit would be lighter and
easier to adjust, considering the safety wire wrap.

First off - Thanks Maxwell for the CD!
I added a bunch of pics to the builder's ref, in the pics section
thanks to Maxwell Duke. He sent me a cd's worth, which also has a
ton of N24ZM engine pics as well, so if Danny gives his okay, I'll
put these in there as well.
http://www.aselia.com/jshays/io240/pics/index.htm
There's a nice pic of Maxwell's plane at
http://www.aselia.com/jshays/io240/index.htm
I still have to create the builder manual notes section, but will
get to it eventually. I will also put a section in with Maxwell's
overall aircraft photo's as well.
I also did a series of photo's on a tire change on N85AE, where
I changed from 600-6's to 850-6's, also have some pics of the
Jack I just made for the plane. I'll get these pics on the site
soon as well.
For some reason my wife seems to think that my household stuff
is more important than the website, so there's a bit of a delay on
some of this extra work ... :)
Regards,
Jeff

Yes, I have been thinking of that. Last summer, I checked with my hand the
temperature of the silver and dark blue colour and the silver one was cooler
but still warm. I am not sure all silver paints reflect heat the same way.
Of course, some evaporation will always occur but I'll try to keep it to a minimum.

Subject: | #1 Rib Placement |
--> Kitfox-List message posted by: "Bob Wilson" <rs-wilson@comcast.net>
BlankGood Afternoon,
My name is Bob Wilson and live in Citrus Heights, California. I am presently
building a Series 6 and have been a silent builder to this list for some time.
By the time I get home from work I am usually behind the curve when trying
to contact Skystar support so thought I would try this method for the first
time. From the drawings in the construction manual I can't determine where the
measurement is being taken from. The measurement between Rib #3 and Rib #1
is supposed to be 35-1/2". Is it measured from the center of the cap strip; or
from inside of Rib #1 to Rib #3; or from the outside of Rib #1 to the outside
of Rib #3? Also, it appears that the tank fits tight up against Rib #3 with
a space left between the tank and Rib #1. Is that correct? Any help would be
greatly appreciated. Thank you.

attitude adjustment or what?) Got nowhere. I called Skystar after listening
to Grove ...Boy!, was I plesently surprised! They are too cool! I don't

>
> The performance part has to do with a Model IV that joined the group for
the first time. It is a Speedster with the long wings - 912 UL. The
builder opted to not shorten the wing span. He had none of the Speedster
fairings except the Speedster vertical stabilizer and rudder ribs and gap
closure. In other words no strut fairings, no wheel pants and no radiator
shroud. He did have the electric trim.
>

is that the electric trim - not having to use flaperon trim for pitch
control - is a real advantage cruise wise. It may cost a little and take
some build time. But it will add a bunch to performance. I was surprised.
Because of the bare lift struts, I expected him to be the cruise speed
determinant for the group (we fly at the speed of the slowest airplane).
Not so. He could easily make over 100 in cruise. I don't know his maximum
cruise, but his engine was running in the low fives as we flew.

Bob,
Measure the distance between the #1 and #3 flaperon hinges. Set the
#1 rib to center on the hinge. Above all, the rib has to line up with the
hinge. I had to trim the fuel tank sides to fit between the ribs.

Bob,
Hope the building process is going well. If I remember correctly, the
dimension is 35.500 center to center. I split the difference with the gap.

BlankGood Afternoon,
My name is Bob Wilson and live in Citrus Heights, California. I am
presently building a Series 6 and have been a silent builder to this list
for some time. By the time I get home from work I am usually behind the
curve when trying to contact Skystar support so thought I would try this
method for the first time. From the drawings in the construction manual I
can't determine where the measurement is being taken from. The measurement
between Rib #3 and Rib #1 is supposed to be 35-1/2". Is it measured from
the center of the cap strip; or from inside of Rib #1 to Rib #3; or from the
outside of Rib #1 to the outside of Rib #3? Also, it appears that the tank
fits tight up against Rib #3 with a space left between the tank and Rib #1.
Is that correct? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Bob,
The correct measurement is 35.5 center to center.
Good luck with your project!

John,
Thanks for the help. The building process is going slow but good. I
told my wife the other day that if this thing never flys the building
experience was all worth it. Although, I think she would like to see it out
of the garage someday. Bob

Hi Bob,
On the Series 7 I'm building it is measured from the rib cap C/L or to
be
more precise outboard edge to outboard edge.

Jay,
Thanks for the information. If the tank is to be centered between the #1
& #3 Ribs, I have cut my two stringers too short and will have to extend
them, because right now the tank fits snug against the #3 Rib with all the
gap on the #1 Rib side. I was figuring that I was going to need more space
for fuel line fittings etc on the inboard end. Thanks again, Bob Wilson
