Jeff, radiator is completely cowled with a rear cockpit controlled cowl
flap. After flying with the cowl both off and on, I found a distinct
difference between the two. Aerodynamically there was a significant
increase (10-12mph) in ias which was very nice, but the biggest improvement
was in engine cooling. One thing you have to understand is that the air
mass will treat the radiator as an obstacle and rather than go through it,
most of the air will deviate around it resulting in poor heat to air
transfer. By fabricating a scoop that forces the air through the radiator
under pressure increases efficiency dramatically. My scoop has a small
opening in front and a large rear opening ( 1/3-2/3).
It was a lot of work building the scoop, but worth the effort because the
result was what I was looking for. Below are some shots of it on
Sportflight. I've got a better camera now and will try to put something up
that shows the mechanism a little better for the cowl flap.

Thanks to the listers for your recommendations. A big help.
Kitfox owners at
Sun-N-Fun may be approached by an Austrian named Hans
Muehlberger - he's the owner of the S5 nearing completion here.
He'll be very keen to check out any 5's with a 912. He's a great
guy but english is limited so please be patient. Although his
english aviation vocabulary, like my german aviation vocab. is
doing pretty well. Anyway I know you guys will be good to him.
And he's doing a very good job on his plane.

Kerry, I think Mark Ferkin can still get them. His, though are a bit larger
21 X 12 X 8.
If you or anyone else needs some and this size will be OK drop a note and I
will contact him. I use them and like them.

Hello all,
Sadly I will not be at Sun n Fun this year, however the RiteAngle will be
shown by my main distributor, Mr. Bill Canino at the Sportair & SeaRey booths.
He has lots of experience with the system and will be able to answer all your
questions should you have any. Should be on several KitFox attending also.
Sorry to miss my many friends I have met over the years, however must keep
things up here on the home front at the opposite end of the US!
See ya at Oshkosh for sure!

Lowell,
I'm interested in larger tires (or tyres for you Brits).
Can you get me in contact with Mark?
Thanks,
Scott in Nome
The "Arctic Fox" goes in the hangar next Friday for annual inspection.
The weather is improving
and I think we are well on the way to "breakup". Fair skies are just a
few weeks away!!!

Very interesting. And encouraging. Hopefully my 912UL IV will cruise at
least that well on wheels. I made all the fairings and streamlined
everything I could. Plus I have a IVO electric prop. But I'll be on floats.
So I was hoping to be able to do 100 on floats (Aerocets, they're pretty
aerodynamically clean). Probably optimistic,, but maybe not!
Now all I have to do is get it done....
Thanks for the info Lowell

Subject: | NSI Turbo oil breather |
--> Kitfox-List message posted by: "Rick" <turboflyer@comcast.net>
Kurt I am pretty tired but I just thought of a few things. You crank case is
vented through both valve covers. The line to the pan is a return for any,
most mist. The line to the pan is not the vent. I will check but I think I
put a post of my setup somewhat borrowed from Tom. I moved the returns to
the side but that really didn't solve the problem of the return oil. I am
back to the rear return. My new pan is custom built .090 and holds an extra
quart, not that makes a difference on the breather return.

What? First someone told it was 8 lbs, now it's 15! Listen, get your act
together before giving advices!
... Just kidding, friends! :-) I understand that, pretty much like everything
else in life, it's a question of compromise. Hum ... let me see, 8 plus 15
divided by two is ... about 12 psi. I'll make a note of that! :-)
Happy Easter, everyone. I hope the WX is as nice for you as it is here. Flying
time!
Cheers,
Michel
