Greg,
Just my 2 cents of course but fuel gauges would seem
to be more trouble than they're worth. The sight
guages are fool proof and the simplest solution. I'm
putting a guage in my Nieuport but only because I
can't see the fuel tank under the cowling and a float
guage would require an open hole in the top of the
tank.
Two float sensors, two electrical circuits with fuses
to short, and two guages to go bad or out of
calibration just seems like a lot of unnecessary
complexity.
Again, just my opinion.
Regards,
Ted

I have nearly 50 years of experience flying in the mountains. I agree with

A library? Thanks Curt, why didn't I think of that?
Anyway, I am back in Norway now, with a severe case of jetlag and blisters on
my feet from walking in N.Y.C. :-)
Thanks to you, John, for reporting to the list my situation. Terribly sorry I
couldn't make it to Washington and meet you and Don. Maybe another time, as I
really feel like coming back to the US. Great country, extremely friendly and
polite people but ... the Big Apple was too much for this old fart. I am glad
I saw it but next time, it will be the American countryside.
I loved the Hudson valley and the Catskills mountains. Our first evening meal
in the US was at Hacienda, a Mexican restaurant in West Point, where the
Cadets were celebrating with the Mexicans the Cinco de Mayo (national day).
What a great example of a harmonious multi-ethnical nation!
Cheers,
Michel

Yep, put in a JPI fuel flow instrument. You will be glad you did. It can be
coupled to various GPS units for a lot of information and piece of mind.
Mine may be off 1/10 of a gal at fill up, maybe. Looking up at the sight
tube add piece of mind in a pinch.

Andy, I am not sure there is such a thing for the Fox. Wing tip lighs yes,
position and strobes yes, but dont think I have seen them all combined like
in an RV. I have a set of landing lights that I havent installed yet, but
the plane is done so just havent done that. I Put a couple in the cowl as a
compromise time thing.

I don't suppose anyone on the list might have a set of wingtip lights with
strobes and position lights that they might want to get rid of. That's the
only thing I haven't done on my wings and I'm about ready to cover. Thanks.

I got the new "latest and greatest" lightspeeds at OSK last year and haven't
been very happy with them. First of all my cell phone connnector wouldn't
work with them and the ear seals don't seem to be as good as my old 15XL. I
get static in the earpieces unless I hold pressure in on the earpieces. Bob

The header tank is behind the passenger seat back. It is an aluminum
tank that Murle Williams welded up for me (he sells them, too). It
is mounted directly behind the passenger backrest, extending from the
floor up to about the midpoint of the seat back. It holds about
1-1/2 gallons.
The photos I posted on the wide-body modification
<http://www.sportflight.com/uploads/Wide-Body.jpg> are the only ones
I have, sorry. At this point, new pictures would only show a lot of
green fabric :-)
The comm antennas are in the vertical tail. #1 is just behind the
leading edge and slopes back with the tubing, while #2 is mounted
just forward of the tube that supports the rudder. I have noticed
some directional issues with the #2 comm radio that I suspect are
antenna related. Directly in front of the plane, maybe 10 degrees
wide, is an area of poor reception. I plan to swap the antenna
connectors on the radios to confirm that it is antenna-related.

I have been using 20K for 5 years and I like it. Just now I called the
repair center 800-332-2421 and the lady gave me the following info:-
I can upgrade to model 30-3G which costs $599 and they take my used 20k
for $200. However, this model is not particularly suitable for the
engine noise of Rotax 912 UL.
She recommended QFR, XCC cross country model at $379, but won't take
back any used set.
I am still researching.

Michael,
Now you can rest your tired bones. If you would have made it to the Washington
area, you could have flown in a Kitfox over the green Virginia country side and
the Allegheny Mountains. Being a pilot we would have taken you to the new
Air & Space Museum at Dulles Airport. It houses the Air France Supersonic Jet,
the Space Shuttle, the Enola Gay WW2 B-29, and a lot of the WW2 fighters. You
can walk around and look at those flying machines all day in one big building
and they have free guided tours where they explain the history of each aircraft.
It cost nothing to get in, except for a $12.00 parking fee.
To show some of what you missed, I will send some pictures that I took while there,
directly to your e-mail. Do Not Archive.

wanted to add a handheld radio to comply with the requirement to monitor

I have a micro air currently but was wondering if someone could point me
in the right direction adding a handheld radio to the mix?

I've got a used A-3 without much wear. Basically it sat in the box until the
nicads weren't any good any more. I shipped it off to Icom and had it
checked over. It's the small one...perfect for velcro to the panel...anyway,
I've tried it and it works pretty good. If you interested in it I'd let it
go for $175 plus shipping.

of the WW2 fighters. You can walk around and look at those flying machines
all day in one big building and they have free guided tours where they
explain the history of each aircraft. It cost nothing to get in, except for
a $12.00 parking fee.
To show some of what you missed, I will send some pictures that I took while
there, directly to your e-mail. Do Not Archive.

I need to figure out what the alternatives are for hooking up a
secondary radio first.
I was hoping the post would generate some ideas on the intercom and
monitoring prior to deciding which
radio will work best. But will keep you in mind!

You could richen the front needle by 1 notch,
or lean the rear 1 notch, and see if this fixes it.

All:
I've noticed on Skystars new website forum (www.skystar.com) that there are
a lot of inexperienced, unexposed, Kitfox "wannabe's" asking questions that
most of you on this forum could expertly answer. So I'd like to twist a few
of your arms by suggesting you occassionally jump onto that site and help
them out with their questions. Not only would it help these people with
their questions, but you might even help Skystar sell a plane or two? The
more the merrier. Right?
I'm certain these newcomers would truly appreciate the groups input. And
what could impress them more than knowing they would be joining an active
and helpful fraternity of other Kitfox owners? Plus, weren't we all Kitfox
wannabe's at one time????

Paul, that is an excellent suggestion. I will post a message there telling
the Skystar group about this group.

Paul and Mike,
If I may interject...
If you look at Michael Gibbs' pictures, the door
frames are much wider at the seat area. It appears
that the front door frames are the same as normal from
the front to the top rear. But the lower and back
frames are widened diagonally making the doors spread
out.
This looks like a very well thought out idea!

Rick and Andy,
Do you mean the Aeroflash type units that have strobe,
wing and tail lights all in one unit? Both SS and ACS
sell them, but I think they want your first born in
exchange. Over $400 a set. SS has the wing tip
adaptors to mount them too. Last I saw they were $12.
