--> Kitfox-List message posted by: "kyle Ponsford" <wild_kyle@hotmail.com> Hi, Richardsons, I have a kitfox 4 I call the "bush fox".It is a no frills job. It is 750lb dry and with the rotax 912 UL I can get off in 150' easy, with me (185lb) and full tanks (2-13 gallon wing tanks and a header.) I can get her down in 150' sometimes but I like 250 better until I get comfortable. I have a very short grass strip at my place and love the fox/ rotax combo. I will tell you I have had precious little help when it comes to engin work. but there are getting more options all the time, this list is a good help too! good luck, Kyle >From: "Richardsons" <victoryfield@btc-bci.com> >Reply-To: kitfox-list@matronics.com >To: <kitfox-list@matronics.com> >Subject: Kitfox-List: New Kitfox5 builder >Date: Thu, 3 Jun 2004 21:13:35 -0400 > >--> Kitfox-List message posted by: "Richardsons" <victoryfield@btc-bci.com> > >I have just purchased an unstarted series 5 kit & found this list. What a >great bunch!A lot of knowledge passing back & forth.Anyway I have a few >questions,I'm looking at using an O-235 or a Rotax 912.I want to build it >light,I'd even consider going non electric on the O-235.Can anyone give me >an idea of the empty weight, takeoff roll &climb rate using either?I want a >basic panel. Can I get it under 800# using the non elect O-235?I've had 3- >Taylorcrafts so handpropping is no problem.I flew a Kitfox 5 last week with >an O-200 wt/ 1000# & I'd like better performance. The last T-craft I had got >off in 250-300' @800'msl & climbed at 800-900 fpm on 85HP.I really thought >the Kitfox 5 could beat that hands down.I talked to Skystar, they really >push using the Rotax. They claim it "spools up faster"& will always take off >& climb faster than the other engines.I am more familiar with the O-235 & >have one available.I need to fly off a 1000'grass strip comfortably.I'm in >SW Michigan not far fr! >om Kalamazoo,Thanks for you help!Eric Ricahrdson=0D=0A > > http://join.msn.click-url.com/go/onm00200361ave/direct/01/

Mine is 700 and is a fat bird by local standards. I also fly behind the R-912 and love its dependability. I have about just over 600 hours on mine and it just runs and runs. A bit bigger than the original. As far as I know he can still get them. If you are interested I will send his phone number direct. --> Kitfox-List message posted by: kurt schrader <smokey_bear_40220@yahoo.com> Looks really good Michel. I made a copy. I like your T/O distance boxes too. The folks in the Desert Fox Squadron and those in Canada and Alaska may need an expanded temperature scale. Just depends upon those who like to fly when it is above 95F, or below freezing. Some may fly out of fields above 8000' DA too. Hot day in Denver might make it. If you want, just expand the scale on the sample and make it full page. We can work off the sample just fine too. Especially good for us Marines who can't keep it straight long enough to flip the page and have to keep going back. :-) Kurt S. --- Michel Verheuge <michel@online.no> wrote: > --> Kitfox-List message posted by: Michel Verheuge > <michel@online.no> > > Hello, > I have uploaded the density altitude chart I made, > in the sportflight's Various/Misc folder. --> Kitfox-List message posted by: kurt schrader <smokey_bear_40220@yahoo.com> Ah, more tools to take along. Going thru my old Sport Av Mags looking for flight testing articles, I found an article called "Outward Bound" in the April 2001 issue. John King should remember the article, since there are only 5 words before his name pops up as the article starts. :-) John gets top billing for leading the Alaska KitFox trip of '98. Tom Anderson is there too showing off his Northern Pike catch. But enough about famous KitFox pilots... The article addresses what to take along including the "Essential 10": Map, compass, food, water, shelter, sleeping bags, matches, camp stove ((John King likes those that burn Avgas) first aid kit, and flashlight. Then add sun-screen and bug spray to round out the list. Good article. Glad I saved it. I note that it has a pic of one of the KitFox's after landing on a highway in Quebec. Seems to say, "Add police escort and 2 five gallon gas cans to the list?" :-) I am still building my essential list. Think I'll need one list for local flying, one for float flying, one for winter flying, and another for cross country...
