It's the same in Norway, Les and Steve. In fact, when you log a flight plan online,
it has a special field where you are asked to give your cell phone number.
They then will try to call you before starting a costly SAR mission.
But I called the Norwegian Telecom this morning and I asked the question of cell
phone coverage from the air. A technician answered that the problem here is
rather the opposite, you will probably have a bad coverage because our GSM antenna
are directional, often installed along roads and in the direction of the
road. Like a radar beam, it is not aimed upward. Therefore, if you have to make
a call, fly low over a road.
Cheers,
Michel

From what I've read, cell phone users in automobiles have the same accident rate
as drunk drivers. I wonder if the same thing would apply to cell phone using
pilots??? DO NOT ARCHIVE.

Hi All'
I want to mount the wing strut fairings (wood) that came with my model 4 kit!
I don't fold my wings, but might want to later! Could any of you model 4 owners
tell me what the measurements are for trimming the rear fairing for clearance
when folded? Thanks

Gill, This will be approximate as I have the SS supplied PVC fairings, but
it seems that at the root, the dimension is about 1" from the center of the
strut and 17" out it is about 2" from the strut center. A line drawn
between those points should give you the clearance you want.

Lowell,
I am not sure what you mean by "root"!
Can you give me a distance from the strut bolt center to these measurments? Thanks

Don, you are very correct in your list. I have seen "many" complete
electrical failures due to this device. Almost all certified aircraft use
this same unit. Your idea of a bypass makes a lot of sense but you might
just put a small circuit breaker to keep the smoke out of the cockpit should
you melt the wire.

Vic,
I forgot to mention but yes, it is fused. I just have to remember not to
hit the starter or all is lost. If my solenoid ever fails, I will go to a
mechanical setup

Gill, Add about 2-1/4" to get the first measurement I gave you. I guess
what I meant by root is the first place on the sides (fore and aft) where
the lift strut is clearly tubing and not the metal welded plates that form
the structure for the bolt. I didn't carry my fairing below the tubing.

Us Wisconsin nordiners used to wear a dry cleaner bag
over our "T" shirts to hold in the sweat. This
prevented later sweat freezing if we exerted ourselves
then slowed down.
Maybe some precooked brats soaked in beer for survival
food too? Low carb if you use light beer. :-)
