Has anyone on the list changed their Model 4 stab struts( 3/16 in. ball end) to
the larger size using 4130 tubing?
If so ,how did you flatten the ends for drilling bolt holes? Is it ok, to flatten
in a vice ? Does the tubing crack and if so ,does it need to be welded on
these cracks? any help is appreciated

Yup, Just bought new rod ends and AN 490. The AN 490 welds into the 3/8" tube.
and the female rod end just screws on the AN 490. Measure carefully as this combo
is longer than the Skystar setup so you need to shorten up the 3/8" tube.
Go to a welding shop and have the welder TIG weld the thing together after you
have it all assembled. I had the welder do 2 plug welds and a seam weld all around
the AN 490. The final result will be many-many times stronger than the
mickey mouse Skystar design.
Took me about 20 minutes to prep the change for the welder and it took the welder
20 minutes to weld the two parts. He charged me $10.
Paul
PS, Dont forget to remove all the paint for about 1" from where the welding will
be done. PW

Please read the attached message below.
I know that there is at least one African builder on the list. Isn't Les
talking about a SkyFox? I don't know much about the Skyfox other than it is
a plans-built Kitfox clone. You can email directly to Les, but I have also
invited him to join this group.
Thanks,
Don Pearsall

Hi Don
my understanding is that Skyfox no longer exist. Their factory was
apparently based in India, or at least the ones coming into Australia were
made there. They came complete in that you put the wing on and away you
went. The sister aircraft which I fly regularly is the Gazelle which is a
nose wheel version used here for training purposes. Its wing looks identical
to my KF 1 but thats where the similarity ends. They were assembled in
Australia by Skyfox of Caloundra, Qlds. I can give you the address if you
want to contact me off list. They are still operational as a training
facility but no longer sell this aircraft.
Cheers
Graeme

Subject: | Classic IV 912S Firewall Forward - Need Help! |
--> Kitfox-List message posted by: Grant Fluent <gjfpilot@yahoo.com>
Hello All,
I am working on the firewall forward portion of my
Kitfox Classic IV 912S and need help. If anyone has
pictures of their engine installation that they would
be willing to send me, I would like to see them. The
pictures in the manual are very poor and I'm having
trouble getting some things to fit - mainly the
exhaust. I am totally convinced I have the exhaust for
a model 5 or something because it's not even close to
bolting up.
Thanks!
